The sound of the heart monitor beeped in the background. Amanda sat down in the chair opposite John who was lying in a deep sleep breathing heavily. She looked over to him. Amanda fought back the tears she hated seeing him in so much pain. She knew that the doctor they had captured will perform the operation on him as soon as she got the point across that it was going to be either his life or hers.

John stirred, and looked over to Amanda she smiled at him even though the tears where already rolling down her face.

"She's gonna do the operation,"

John nodded

"To relive the pressure on your brain, and too help with the headaches" Amanda finished.

John nodded and turned his head away again.

"I don't think I can do this" she whispered putting her head in her hands.

John turned on his side to face her.

"Amanda you can, you can get through this you're so much stronger now, and I am leaving you"

Amanda sobbed.

John stared over at her, he hated seeing her so upset she was the one he wanted to continue his work the only one he trusted.

"Come here." He whispered holding out a hand.

Amanda got up and walked to his bedside then he did something that took her by surprise, he put his arms around her shoulders and pulled her into a hug while she continued to cry on his shoulder. Her breathing was jolty but her stomach was in butterflies she couldn't bear to think that she would never see him again. He was everything to her. He had saved her made her life better. But she couldn't save him. The cancer was destroying him and there was no way out.

"I don't want to you leave me John, don't leave me" she chocked.

"Please, Amanda I don't want you to cry, you're stronger than this, and always remember I have never left you, even when I die I'm always going to be there with you" he looked her in the eyes and smiled and she smiled back. He always managed to give her strength even when she was at her worst. She took a deep breath

"Can I get you anything?"

"No, I'm fine, but Amanda will you stay while I have the operation I just want to know that your there?" John asked.

Amanda smiled and nodded, and sat back in the chair. She wanted to much to tell him what she felt but new she really shouldn't. The monitor beeped quietly in the background as John feel into a light slumber. Amanda watched his struggled breathing again and wished with all her heart she could it make it all better. He was right, they would never be apart even in death.
