Charles Beckendorf knew he was going to die. He knew he would take his last breath on that demon ship. He accepted the quest anyway. He knew he had to. He knew he might be saving Silena that way. And that was all that mattered.

So, with a grimace on his face, when Chiron told him it was time, he nodded and left to find Silena.

She was sitting in her cabin, her earphones in as always. She smiled and took the plugs out of her ears when she saw the son of Hephaestus walk in.

Her heart and her smile dropped when she saw the disheartened and frightened look on his face. She knew it was time for him to leave. And she couldn't bear it.

Knowing he could very well die on this quest, she ran up to him and collapsed in his arms. She put her delicate hands in his calloused ones and looked into his eyes.

She kissed him and told him she loved him, not realising it would be the last time. She smiled at him and whispered in his ear, "Just come back to me. Just come back. Promise me. I love you, Charlie."

"I love you too, Silena. I always have." And he kissed her, slow and lingeringly, one last time. Too late did she realise that he never promised her he'd come back. Too late.

He told Percy to leave. Get out. Tell Silena he would love her for all eternity. And Percy left. And he was here. Dying. Like he knew he would.

The ship was about to blow to pieces. He was done for. He saw the evil grin on Lu-Kronos's face as he escaped. Watched as the ship exploded. And muttered four little words, "I love you, Silena."

His life was no more.

He was in Elysium now. That Hades kid, Nico was talking to him. He recognised the troubled kid from camp, but he had never exchanged more than a few words with the guy.

"Are you going with rebirth, Beckendorf? You most definitely deserve the Isles."

"Nah. I'm not going to."

That seemed to take the pale kid by surprise. "Why not?"

He thought for a moment. "I'm waiting on someone."
