Disclaimer: I do not own Lúthien Tinúviel, Beren Erhchamion, or Melian the Maia. I also do not own the Mary Sue named Lúthien, and hope I never do.

Author notes: I'm always seeing Elven Mary Sues who steal the names of canon characters. If they were human, it wouldn't be a problem, but elves do not take other elves' names. I have often wondered what happens to the elves whose names are taken, so I came up with this.

An Elven lady stood in a forest, staring in wonder at the beauty around her. "Neldoreth..." she whispered. "This is where Beren saw me..."

She visibly saddened at the thought of this man, whom despite all her efforts, she could not remember what he meant to her. "He must have been important...why else would I feel so much sorrow at the mere thought of him?" she asked the forest.

Suddenly, she was not alone. Another lady was visible, in a small moonlit clearing. This new elleth was astoundingly beautiful. Her long, silvery hair shone in the moonlight, and her incredibly blue eyes sparkled in anticipation.

A man crept into the clearing. The silver haired lady smiled at him as he called to her. "Lúthien," he murmured.

"Beren, my love," she replied. Both were unaware of their silent observer.

"Lúthien," the hidden lady whispered, "Why does that name seem so familiar?"

"Because it is yours, daughter of mine," a new voice replied.

She started, and turned around to face another woman. "W-what?" she stuttered, "What did you say?"

"You, my beautiful daughter, are Lúthien. This imposter fools me not, though all others fall under her spell."

"How can this be? That is Lúthien! Who are you to say such things?" she gasped.

"I am Melian. Lúthien is my daughter, and she," Melian gestured to the lady in the clearing, "is not her. You are."

"You must be lying! How can I be Lúthien? Beren would love me, were I her?" the nameless lady cried out in anguish.

Then she ran. She ran as hard, and as fast as she could. Branched scratched her faced, and ripped her clothes as she fled from the Maia.

A long ways away, she finally collapsed in exhaustion. She turned her gazed heavenward, and screamed, "Who am I? Tell me who I am! Why can I not remember? Who am I!?" Then, she broke down and sobbed.

Back by the clearing, Melian sighed sadly. "My beautiful daughter, why did this imposter have to steal you name, your life, your love, and your place in this world? Why do you have to suffer so?" she murmured. Then, the Maia turned, and left.
