A/N: I looked at a transcript from arianedevere on livejournal, I highly recommend that if you want to know what exactly was said in show.
This is my thoughts on a scene from Sign of Three when Sherlock was trying to find the Mayfly man.
Sherlock was spiraling, he knew. There were simply too many possibilities and the incessant command to "narrow it down" was doing nothin but add to the chaos in his head. He needed to find something to steady him or he would never be able to solve the case in time. His mental version of Mycroft wasn't going to cut it, he needed...
"You..." Sherlock pointed at Watson, his Watson, the soldier standing at attention and ready to aide his friend.
"What do I do?"
Those 4 words shattered Sherlock, fragmenting him in the blink of an eye. Had John forgotten? Had it really been so long since Sherlock had been there that the soldier had forgotten how to be his John Watson?
Holmes had never forgotten what it had meant to have a Watson, and most likely never would. The detective had thought he was infallible, perfect in his deductive reasoning and able to come up with answers faster than anyone. It was only after having met the strong and steady Watson that Sherlock realized he could be so much better.
The soldier was his rock, his anchor, the calm in the storm that was his ever calculating mind. Had John forgotten all that he meant to Sherlock?
Well, he'd just have to remind him again. After all, what were partners for?
"Well, you've already done it." And so the partnership continued.
