Broken Promises

Today of all days the sun is shining and the birds are happy and cheery. Today the world goes on as if nothing has ever happened. No one knows the pain he has caused.

She walks into the room and silent tears roll down her cheeks. She stares at him from across the way knowing that he is going to leave her. She stands there thinking of the broken promises he made her. Her friends stand behind her as she approaches him.

She stands beside him, grabbing his ice cold hand. He didn't say a word nor did he look at her. She clutched his hand to her heart. Tears poured out of her eyes as did her friends'.

She called his name softly for only him to hear, "Jimmy?" but to no avail. He wouldn't look at her or answer her sweet requests. "Jimmy? Why? I don't understand. How could you leave me? I need you! What about the promises you made me? You said you would never leave me! You said you would never hurt me! You promised!" she screamed. All the people in the room looked at her and felt her pain. Her friends grabbed her around her arms and cautiously pulled her away from him. She left his side, but stood in the back of the room still staring at him. Her friends held her up in case she was to collapse. She caught her breath in her throat as she saw a man in black appear. He stood at the front of the room and watched the tears fall from her eyes.

The man cleared his throat and began to speak. "Today is an unfortunate day for the Brooks family as we are here to mourn the death of a son, nephew, cousin friend and boyfriend. Jimmy…"

He continued for several minutes causing every person in the room to cry. She was the worst in the room. She couldn't stop no matter what her friends did or said. Finally her best friend spoke up, "Hazel, let's get out of here. I can't see you like this." She was pulled out of here. The only thing on her mind was the broken promises. He was gone and never to come back. The broken promises ran through her head knowing they were broken forever.
