Disclaimer: I don't own Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles or its characters. They are rightfully owned by Fox Broadcating Company. I just like to toy with them. .
A/N: This is my first t:tscc story, lol. It was something I thought of as I sat at work really bored.

"John, I don't understand…" He glanced at her perplexed.
"What Cam?" They sat in silence for a few seconds, ignoring the homework assignment in front of them.
"Derek said he was going to 'hit the sack' and he left for his room. Is he going to punch something? All indications show that he does not practice boxing," she explained flatly, yet the innocence swirled in her words. He couldn't help but laugh at the silly question, which made her smile, even though she was still confused.
"He meant that he was going to sleep, Cam. It's just slang." She furrowed her tiny eyebrows together with more confusion.
"Slang? What is slang?" she asked, and he scratched the back of his neck in frustration.
"Well, it's a way of expressing informally, I guess," he answered matter-of-factly. She raised her eyebrows, and John could almost see the figurative light bulb flicker on over her head.
"Wait… slang, noun; a very informal usage in vocabulary and idiom that is characteristically more metaphorical, playful, vivid, and ephemeral that ordinary language," Cameron recited monotonously. John rolled his eyes.
"Are you reading the dictionary again?" he asked in mock sarcasm.
"I don't-"
"Sleep, I know," he answered for her. Her lips turned up in a small smile for the second time, and rolled her eyes. She looked away for a second and turned her gaze back to him.
"Actually, I wasn't going to say that. Since the explosion, I've been requiring to power down to stand-by mode at night. So, technically, I am sleeping now."
He just blinked and she smiled triumphantly.
"Why?"
"The explosion not only affected my chip but my power cell as well. By the end of the day, my power cell had lost 73.7 percent of its strength, hindering me to small activities like watching television, sitting or talking. I need to go stand-by mode so that I can recharge to full capacity for the next day."
"So you're hitting the sack now, huh?" he laughed and turned his attention back to his homework assignment. She smiled after fully understanding his words.
"Yes, I guess I am. Thank you for explaining," she agreed and returned to her essay.
Silence…
"And no, John, I am not reading the dictionary."
