It's raining when he shows up on Steve's doorstep. To the Captain's credit, he doesn't ask questions. Instead, he shuttles Tony inside and wraps him in a blanket. He brews a pot of coffee and makes him a sandwich and carefully says nothing about the fact that Tony smells like a brewery.

When the coffee is done, they sit in Steve's living room, neither one saying a word. They sip their drinks in silence and it stretches on for so long that Tony feels he has to say something or he'll scream.

"She left me."

Steve's glance is sharp, but his sigh is telling.

"I know."
