Hollow
Chapter 3
I looked at the clerk. The viola had chosen me. I gazed at it's dark, smooth surface; the perfect blend of dark and light colors. "Now, let's go get you a case," he said, walking to the door. I followed him back out into the shop. He went behind a counter and began shuffling through cases. "Here's a nice one," he said, handing me a black wood case with silver locks. It was beautiful. "The case already contains a bow, so you won't need to purchase an extra, unless you really want to." "Ok," I replied. "So how much for all this?" My mom appeared behind me. "I'll take care of it," she said, taking out her wallet. "I'm afraid that won't be nessecary," the clerk stopped her. "This time, for you, it is a gift." I smiled at him. "Wow, that's very generous of you," my mother said. "Thanks so much!"
On our way out, something caught my eye. Some wooden statues were perched near the doorway. Smooth, dark wood. They resembled humans, but they're heads were small and necks were long. I decided to put the odd things behind me.
We left the store, my new instrument in hand. I felt satisfied, anxious, excited. I couldn't wait for school to start after the weekend was over. My friends would be so happy for me. I knew all of them were extremly passionate about orchestra. It was their life, literally. Little did I know, soon it would be mine.
