So when
will it end
So when
when will we meet my friend
From the beginning on, he had always known that he would never actually get to know Wolfwood until all this was over and done with. This Wolfwood, who seemed to spend half his time acting uncaring and rough and violent, and the other half either being pissed off or brooding about something – that was part of the man, sure, but there was something else, stuffed in a deep black hole underneath it all. This something – this someone – Vash would sometimes catch small, barely-there glimpses of, but nothing more.
Sometimes when Wolfwood smiled, and his face was half hidden in shadows. Sometimes when Vash did something ridiculous, and the other man couldn't decide whether to yell at him first or instantly laugh his ass off.
But as long as this wasn't over, that would be all he'd ever get, half-smiles and half-truths.
He told himself he'd wait. Pushing Wolfwood – losing him – wasn't an option.
He had many secrets and issues of his own, so what was the point in throwing stones?
He told himself he'd wait. Until Wolfwood was ready to meet him.
Only later did he realize how naive, how fucking stupid that had been.
Because from the very beginning, Wolfwood had been trying to tell him. Whatever his smiles seemed to say to him – whatever they had been trying to silently convey – all he'd ever say was "good-bye."
