Always By My Side

This was supposed to appear in one of my other stories, but it didn't seem to fit somehow, so I decided to display it as it is.

A bright flash of light floods across my face. My eyes flutter open. A shadowy figure approaches and lands a kiss on my sleepy lips. "Good morning, sleepy head," you say lovingly with a smile, inches from my face. "Are you awake yet?"

"I think I need another wake up call first," I grumble with a smirk, letting my lids drop. This time you lay a passionate one on me. "Mmm…" Just what I need on a Saturday morning.

"Awake now?" you ask playfully, drawing away.

"Don't you think-" I begin, sitting up, but before I could go on, my mouth is once again locked in an impassioned moment. No one but you can make me feel this way. How I wish this moment could last forever. When you finally pull away, my eyes part and all I can see is you shining down on me. You are my life, my everything.

"I have to stop by a few places this morning to pick up some groceries and supplies," you explain, like the motherly figure that you are. "I'm going to take Hotaru with me and we're going to do some shopping later on. So don't expect us to be back for a few hours."

"You know I can't be away from you for long," I express openly. Holding my head close and pressing your lips to my forehead you whisper, "You'll survive. By the way, I'll need to borrow your car." My prized possession. Gulp.

"You will bring it back in one piece, right?" I look at you uneasily. I don't even want to be reminded of the last time you took it for a drive.

"Oh? Are you afraid?" you challenge amusingly. You're such a tease. You always know where my weakness lies. Of course, this isn't the first time you've used them against me. You laugh merrily at the hesitant expression on my face. It's like music to my ears. I relax good-humouredly.

"Go ahead, take it. Just come back to me when you're done," I tell her casually, all jokes aside.

"I'll always come back to you," you assure me with lingering eyes. Running your hand through my hair, you turn to go. I follow your every movement until you walk out of my sight. When I hear the tires back out of the driveway, I fall back onto the welcoming bed, recalling your lovely presence with a warm smile on my face.

Maybe just another few minutes…
