Mad Genius: Battle of Omashu

Written by: Drgn Prncss

Hullo again! This is my continuation of my line of Bumi fics- because there are simply not enough. This one is angst- the other is humor (sort of). The others I'm not sure of yet. Feel free to tell me which one you think is better- or anything about it at all. So, if you're not getting the hint- REVIEW!

Some replies to previous reviews

Cool a Bumi story: Thanks for your words! I'm not bugged at all by reviews- give one that's as long as you like! Unfortunately, I have no clue about season 2, but Bumi should teach Aang earthbending- he did say he was the best around, didn't he?

Amberhawk: winces for poor Bumi and Aang that can't be pleasant. Thank you for your review, either way!

Onwards to Bumi!

OoOoO

The sight of the fire benders was impressive, that much was sure. They walked in perfectly strait lines, blackish-red armor making a seemingly endless line on the horizon.

Bumi watched, as he pushed his ginger brown hair (although it was now flecked with bits of gray) out of his eyes. Crown left in his chambers, and common earth bender uniform splayed across his body, Bumi looked the part of low rank Earthbender. After all, who would expect the 'eccentric' king of Omashu to wear something so ordinary.

Bumi felt those around him shift into a fighting stance, and quickly followed suit. They were all ready for battle.

As the sea of fire benders streamed towards Omashu, Bumi thought of what he was fighting for. Whom he was fighting for.

His brother, waiting in Onashi. Angry for the fact that he was unable to help his only sibling because of fear that the Fire Nation would attack their city as well.

His sister-in-law, whom held the duty of teaching the small children the escape plan for their city.

His niece and two nephews, who had watched with terrified eyes as their father, mother, and uncle explained the war, and what may happen because of it.

Aang, the friend lost from the weight of his own destiny.

The people standing next to Bumi, ready to fight- fight till their last breath in a possibly vain hope to save the Earth Kingdom Capital.

Bumi opened the eyes he didn't remember closing and stared out in front of him. The fire benders had stopped, and an almost eerie calm spread over the battlefield.

Then, in unison, the fire benders attacked, sending near identical balls of flame towards the opposing side. The attack was blocked by the wall of earth suddenly erected.

The Battle of Omashu had begun.

Bumi looked around at the battle raging around him, and suddenly- insanely even- began to laugh. The snorting, rolling laugh that he was famous for.

Then…he fought.

OoOoO

The Battle of Omashu was a victory for the Earth Kingdom. And yet, it was not. Many people had died on the mountainous terrain Omashu- and the rest of the Earth Kingdom- was known for, both Earth and Fire alike. Families had been ripped apart; loved ones had been killed…

And yet, Bumi still stood. Still hoped- no- knew that hope would return to the world. The Avatar would return.

His friend would return.

And Bumi wouldn't rest until that day.

And, hopefully, a good while after that day.

OoOoO

So…what did you think? Did I do Bumi justice? Because I, personally, believe Bumi can't be all snorts and corny puns. Though that is a good bit of him, I'll admit.

So, review! Tell me what you thought of angst Bumi. I like him, actually.

NOTE: Onashi is a city I made up- not in the cannon (unless I'm psychic or something. coughFatChancecough)

Toodles and Review!
