A/N: Pretty much every pairing possible of these characters is hinted at, although I think you can surmise from the end that it's more or less Percabeth. Reviews are appreciated.
A pentagon.
For Thalia, it was very painful.
She was caught next to Luke, as much as she didn't want to be. Their history made it too hard for her to pull away. Annabeth couldn't leave him either, and yet somehow their problems were entirely different.
Thalia remembered more. She had felt more, and had had stronger desires at the time. It made it all the harder to watch what he had become.
Then there was Percy. No matter how she may have resisted, she found herself slowly edging in his direction. His eyes, their similarities. Little triggers, giving her comfort and reasons to abandon the past.
It was only Annabeth who restrained her. Annabeth, who she loved more than a sister. Annabeth, who'd she always find waiting on their other sides, whenever she got too close to them. And what was worst, worst, of all, was that Thalia knew neither of them belonged to her.
It hurt, and so she joined the huntresses, thus pulling herself from the equation entirely.
A square.
For Grover, it was confusing.
He loved them all, he really did. Thalia, Percy and Annabeth were his best friends. But sometimes, it made him sad. He didn't understand why he always felt so left behind by the rest of them. They were caught up in their own issues, and he sat on the sidelines, waiting for them to need a friend.
But sometimes he wanted to be more. Annabeth and Thalia were both beautiful, he decided. And Percy… Percy was the person he cared most about in the world. It made it hard, and he could hardly think about his friends without his head spinning. He loved them each, separately, but doubted that they felt the same about him.
Then Juniper came along. The first person who made him feel appreciated and secure. Even if she was not the same as they were, he still had feelings for her.
And they baffled him, with their sudden changes, and so he silently bowed out of the equation.
A triangle.
For Luke, it was what it was.
Luke didn't necessarily want to be a part of their twisted complex; he theoretically should have phased out a long time ago. But he had ties to Annabeth, ties to Thalia, ties to Percy because of their twisted fate. He even felt tied to Grover, after all of their years together at Camp.
While some of his memories faded, others didn't. They spun and spun, rewriting his soul a million times over. He wanted to leave them behind, and yet they clung to him. It was nearly impossible to cut their connecting strings completely.
But as Kronos entered his body, it became so much easier. Suddenly, Luke was on the other side of the gate, and out of their equation.
Two intersecting lines.
At last, it was only them. Percy and Annabeth, holding tightly to the same rope in order to survive. Everyone else had left, and now they no longer made a polygon. Just two lives, scribbling their way through forever.
They might have resented each other most of the time, just for making it too hard, but their lines continued to cross. And try as they might to pull away, their paths always met up.
It may have been only them, and it might not have been such an equation anymore, but somehow it seemed okay.
