In Erik Lehnsherr's mind, everyone was a liar.
A phony.
A fake.
Everyone hiding and lying, and deceiving and disguising.
Raven Darkholme; with her naturally blue skin, ruby hair, and topaz eyes, hidden under a classic blond visage. She tried so hard to be normal, to hide her true self. She was a fake, never letting her true form shine, never accepting herself as was born. She was lying herself. Always. "Mutant and proud? Or is it only with the pretty mutations, or invisible ones like yours? But if you're a freak, you better hide!"
Hank McKoy; trying so hard to be normal, to hide his hand-feet. Shoving his mutation into shoes, hiding his difference. Trying so hard to remove this distinguishing feature, he turned himself into a furry blue man. He was a phony. Hiding his mutation until Charles came along and made a blunder. Telling Raven that they'd never be accepted. Hank was a liar. "Don't mock me!"
Angel Salvador; running off to Shaw and his merry band of idiots. Ashamed of who she was, hiding her wings in the guise of tattoos. She didn't accept herself. I can't even say whether she truly joined either side, with her switching loyalties. She was a liar too. "Come on. We don't belong here. And that's nothing to be ashamed of."
Even I, Erik Lehnsherr, am a fake. A liar. I am not free from this brand. A brand I so easily can dole out and spot. My words, untrue. I stayed with Charles and his mutants for my own gain to begin with, keeping up that façade. However, even I sometimes feel the tendrils pull of loneliness. I hid myself from myself, hiding the good so deep I couldn't see it. Charles brought it out. After killing Shaw, I lied to gain power. Accepting Frost into my organization. Hiding my mind from Charles. I'm a phony myself. "I didn't know I still had that." - "Us turning on each other, it's what they want. I tired to warn you, Charles. I want you by my side. We're brothers, you and I. All of us together, protecting each other. We want the same thing." – "Gone. Left a bit of a gap in my life, if I'm to be honest. I was rather hoping you would fill it. Join us."
The only person who is true, who is honest and good and pure, is Charles Xavier. The telepathic professor who strove for unity and equality for all through peace, not war. He showed us our power and instilled in everyone a purpose. Honest to a T. Charles is no liar. He truly thinks he can change the world through peace. He never sugar coated the truth, never hiding his true thoughts. He told me so bluntly, I was the one who caused his paralysis. He knows the truth in people, that there is more then just their disguise. He is a smart man. An honest man. "My friend. I'm sorry, but we do not." – "There is so much more to you than you know. Not just pain and anger. There is good, too. I felt it. When you can access all of that, you will possess a power no one can match. Not even me."
Erik Lehnsherr doesn't see the good in people. He dissects their actions, notes their flaws. Brands them as liars, fakes, phonies.
Ugh. In all honesty, this was a drabble written in one class period, using the same theme/mindset as Holden from Catcher in the Rye, concerning the belief that everyone is fake/ a liar. The bold are 3rd POV, the rest is in his mind.
