Details/Notes: I often am bitten by AU bunnies, but considering the fact I am a short story author at best, hardly any of them are written. This is my take on something that might of happened but never did. Read it as you will, and please review with any thoughts or critiques you might have

Letters Never Sent:

First document found amongst the possessions of one H.J. Potter, intended recipient one D.L. Malfoy.

Any following responses (?) are claimed as fictitious.

Draco Malfoy,

I cannot believe that I am writing to you, as I am sure you are equally shocked to be reading this; provided I work up enough of my so-called Gryffindor courage and send this letter instead of burning it as I ought to.

There are many things I wish to say to you, and even more which I would demand an explanation of without the cajoling insults we have thrown at each other for to long, dancing around the real issues of why we hate each other as we do, but I shall start with the most pressing on my mind.

Do you truly intend to follow in your father's footsteps, forsaking even your family motto to bow before a half-blood merely because he claims to support your ideals?

Is that the sort of man you would become, left to your own devices? Or are you merely stumbling along the path of destiny laid out in front of you, much the same as I am, picking your battles so that you might live to see the end of the war?

I await your reply.

Harry Potter,

I wish I could have seen the spite colouring your face as you wrote to me, but perhaps then I would not be level-headed enough to reply without cursing you into damnation for thinking to contact me.

You know nothing of me or my family, Potter, and I would prefer it to stay that way until you meet your untimely demise; one which I know will come long before my own.

I am the man the world has made me.

Draco Malfoy

-

Draco Malfoy,

I know more than you presume about your family, though I admit to knowing little of you outside of what childish rivalries have shown. Don't forget that I have met your father face to face in battle more than once, and watched as he kissed the hem of the Dark Lord's robes to curry his favour.

I ask again, is that a premonition of your own future?

Like it or not our fates are twined together, bound by this war until it is ended, and even then we will remain in the history books for generations to come.

I am the man the world has made me.

I await your reply.

Harry Potter

Harry Potter,

I will not speak to you of a future you are surely never going to see. How many days can you hide from the Dark Lord and his power? He is waiting for you.

Draco Malfoy

-

Draco Malfoy,

I could say the same to you, and it would hold equal truth.

How many days do you have before the Mark is burned into your flesh, sealing you forever in his service? Both of our lives are forfeit to him, does it really matter the speed at which the blow is delivered?

I will see you soon, Malfoy, regardless of whether or not the decision is your own, or that of your father's.

Harry Potter

End.

End Notes: Thank you for reading, and please review.
