A/N: An intriguing find in the depths of the bunker could have hellish consequences. 150 words.
Lemarchand's Cube
"The Cube is an imitation of life itself - or even an improvement on life" - Erno Rubik
He should have known better; a puzzle box locked in a safe and marked with the word 'danger' in at least a dozen different dead languages.
It was just a wooden cube, albeit with an intricate gold inlay. When he picked it up and shook it there wasn't a rattle, but instead a strange, oddly unsettling, shifting motion that seemed to come from deep within.
He couldn't stop thinking about it. When he lay in bed he couldn't sleep. Instead, he heard a faint voice calling to him; more a resonance in his chest than a sound.
He padded barefoot through the long dark corridors leading him back to the safe. He held the box to his ear and heard it clearly now. A heartbeat; pounding in time with his own.
He stared at the box and knew instinctively that, no matter the cost, he would have to open it.
A/N: I wrote about this box before, in "Puzzle Boxes".

A/N: Not all his nightmares are of hellfire. 100 words.
Cube Root of Everything
Dean was in a classroom; somehow familiar, yet not one he recognized.
He knew Sam was sitting in the back, in the same way he knew he was dreaming but was powerless to wake.
"What's the cube root of 74,088?" the ominous teacher demanded.
Without a second thought, Dean turned to his brother.
Only Sam didn't answer. He sat frozen, that massive forehead screwed up in bewilderment.
Dean realized he knew the answer, as if it was lit up in his mind.
"Forty-two," he whispered, but couldn't get Sam to hear.
Why aren't they asking the right question? he thought.
A/N: Don't ask me what it's about, it's Dean's dream!
