Author's Notes: Oooh, so this soul thing is something that even other angels (who don't even seem that fond of humanity) are opposed to. Can't wait to see what unfolds now. Loved the episode, especially sine it'll probably be our last little ray of sunshine for awhile.

Summary: 5x18 coda drabble. After Colt has given Sam the gun, he has a question.

Hunters

Sam is halfway out the door when Colt calls out to him, already pouring another drink and seeming only mildly interested in his own conversation.

"I know it won't matter and maybe you can't even tell me, but I gotta go ahead and ask…" He takes a swig of his liquor and doesn't look up. "What happens?"

The question's vague. Sam thinks purposefully, but it doesn't matter. There's only one answer anyway. Colt's not looking up and Sam's not looking back.

"…It ends bloody or sad…for all of us."

Sam walks out the door without a backward glance and Colt continues on staring at his desk where just his one original journal remains. 'Hero' echoes in his head a couple times. He sweeps it away with a thought and a sip, but it keeps coming around along with a pair of earnest hazel eyes, as haunted as his own.

Samuel thinks that he may have to ride into town tomorrow to get another bottle, even though when he looks at his, it's almost full.
