"Ugh! So boring!" Mai Taniyama complained. It was a slow Saturday at SPR, and so far, no new cases have been reported.
"Speakin' my language there, kiddo," announced Monk as he strolled into the room.
"Hey Monk!" the girl greeted. "I don't suppose you've heard of any new cases."
The sand-haired (A/N: is that an adjective?) man shook his head. "Nope, 'fraid not."
Mai glanced toward the open window. "And it's so hot, too!"
"Yep. Which is why I was thinkin' that maybe we could all hit the beach today."
"The beach?" the brunette girl repeated in surprise.
"What, you don't like it?"
Mai held her hands up defensively. "No, no, I love it, it's just…" She sighed. "It's just, Naru wouldn't be up for it" She pouted. "He never has any fun."
Chuckling, Monk sauntered over to her and poked her cheek. "Cheer up, Mai, I'm sure we can talk him into it."
"No, we can't," she replied monotonously. "That's Naru for you."
Monk raised an eyebrow. "Mhm. Sure. Well, I'm up for it, so let's give it a shot."
"Monk! That'll never work! He won't wanna go to-"
"-The beach?" Naru asked, sitting at his desk in his office.
Masako, standing in the doorway of his office, nodded. "I heard the others talk about it."
Mai watched this from around the corner, crouched down behind the wall. Masako, what are you doing? You know he won't say yes!
Naru pondered a minute. "Well… guess a day off wouldn't hurt."
"What?" Mai cried to herself, so surprised that she sprung up and hit her head. "Ow…"
Naru lifted his head to see Mai on the floor rubbing her head in pain. "Mai, what are you doing?"
"N-nothing." That jerk! I can't believe he agreed! Sure, he said yes when she asked, but if I did—wait, didn't something like this already happen before?*
Monk headed over to her. "So what's the verdict?"
Mai smiled up at him and flashed the thumbs-up sign. "We're going to the beach!"
* A reference to episode 11, it's funny, I don't want to give it away, go see it!
Chapter 1 done! The juniors are doing NECAP testing, so currently I'm in my math class, which has all of three people, me included. The teacher said we had free time so my first thought was to hop on the computer and type this out. Evil school Microsoft Word, not having "Naru" in the dictionary. -.-' I have most of chapter 2 done, so that'll be up soon. Naruo and Mailiet will be updated soon as well. I know this was kinda short, sorry, but what do you think? Is the placement of the characters confusing (Masako standing outside Naru's office, Mai crouched down in the corner, etc)? Constructive criticism please. Please tell me what you did or did not like about it, please be specific. Thank you so much! As always, thanks for reading, and see you soon!~
