He was woken up by her screaming.
At first Lelouch had been surprised when he survived the Zero Requiem. It had never been part of his plan to live. But nevertheless, he had lived, and so he and C.C. had sought out a peaceful country home where they could take a break from all of the action.
They did not share a bed. Although he knew they were going to be together for a very long time, Lelouch had insisted that both of them have separate rooms. He respected her space, and she didn't bother him any more than she usually does.
So when Lelouch heard C.C. screaming, C.C. of all people, he immediately ran to her room and threw the door open.
"C.C.! What's wrong?!"
He found her thrashing around in her bed, having a nightmare horrible enough to frighten even the immortal witch.
Lelouch sat on the bed next to her and took hold of one of her flailing hands.
"C.C.! It's ok! It's just a dream!"
This put an end to her screaming and thrashing around, but she began to shake and began muttering "No.. Stop.. Please.." over and over again.
What in the world could she possibly be seeing that's got her this upset..?
Lelouch pulled C.C. up into a sitting position and held her close in his warm embrace. Why do I have to do this..?
"It's ok, C.C... Nothing is going to happen to you.."
He almost jumped in surprise when he felt her arms wrap around him tightly. She stopped shuddering and went silent.
The room was completely quiet except for C.C.'s steady breathing as she slept with her head on his shoulder while they held each other.
Is she asleep..?
Lelouch gently set C.C. back down on her bed and began to stand up so he could return to his own room.
He stopped when he found that C.C. had caught hold of his wrist.
"No.. Lelouch.. Please stay.."
The words left her lips as little more than a whisper, but Lelouch heard every one loud and clear.
She hasn't been this scared since she lost her memory.. Whatever she saw must have been truly horrible..
It was then that Lelouch made his decision. When he climbed into bed next to her and held her once more, she snuggled up against him and drifted off to a peaceful, nightmare-free sleep.
Maybe I like her a bit more than I'd like to admit.. He thought as he, too, fell asleep.
The next day he woke up and she was gone. On his way back to his room, he saw her on the couch. She didn't even turn to acknowledge that he was there.
Looks like she's back to her old self, he thought as he started to walk back to his room. When he was almost there, he was stopped by her voice.
"That wasn't very nice of you to take advantage of a helpless little girl like me."
Hepless?! You?! Give me a break!
He responded without turning around, "I seem to recall a certain person begging me to stay, you ungrateful witch."
He opened the door to his room when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned to find himself face-to-face with C.C.
"I never said I wasn't thankful, Lelouch."
"Wh-" His response was cut short as she placed a hand on his chest and her lips met his. Whatever he was planning on saying melted away as they held the kiss until they were forced apart to breathe.
She looked into his eyes.
"Thank you.. Really.."
