Things were going great between Janie and Cabe. The two had just gone public with their relationship, after 7 months of secret dating. Both Janie and Cabel's cases for the Captain had closed up nicely, so their was no reason they couldn't be seen together. They were still working out together, and summer was approaching again, and this time, no head trauma in sight. Soon the pair would be headed off to U of M.
Cabel was no longer sleeping on the couch when Janie stayed over. He had learned to control when he dreamed. But one night, Janie felt herself go ridged in her sleep. Her lovely dream about Cabe was now veering off in an opposite direction. Cabe's dream was about Janie, but not the way they usually were. The Dream Janie was in a church, a place she had never once been. She was sitting in a white dress, looking down at a shiny ring on her finger. Behind her, Cabe was standing, in a tux, holding a legal pad and a pen. This could be us, he wrote. Will you marry me?
Suddenly Janie was pulled out of the dream, so quickly she never had time to catch her breath. When gained control again, she opened her eyes and saw Cabe standing there, a little velvet box in his hand.
"I love you Janie, more than anything in the world. Please, please marry me." Cabe sank down on one knee and stared into Janie's eyes.
"Oh Cabe, I love you too. Of course, I will. I love you Cabel." Janie's eyes filled with tears as she flung her arms around Cabel's neck. With one arm around her waist, he shifted himself on to the bed and she sat in his lap. He opened the box and showed her the ring.
"It's not much, but it was my grandmothers," Cabe explained. The ring had a silver band, and 3 small diamonds. It was the most beautiful thing Janie had ever seen.
"I love it. It's perfect. We're perfect." Janie whispered.
"I know we don't have the money now. But I can wait if you can. Until we are out of high school, or college. As long as I get to keep you forever, I'm willing to compromise." Janie laughed then and pulled the ring onto her finger.
