Her Journey Home

Oh mortal shores, I say farewell,

To lands where I have long years dwelt,

I laughed, I wept, I grieved and smiled

And now my ship passes the miles

Under a grey dawn on a grey sea.

The Valar, they have heard my pleas

My way is set, I now depart

Following the call that begs my heart

To return to the blessed shores

Where peace will be forevermore.

The sky turns blue, the rain subsides,

And there my old home before me lies:

Still faint and far and far away,

And who waits there I cannot say.

I only know that I am blessed

To again see the Old West

Where I was born, where I was raised,

Where I in Trees´ light with my brothers played.

My daughter there will wait for me

To return over the wide sea.

They all have gone back to this land

Where long ago among princes did stand

A maiden young with golden hair

Wishing to herself win a share

Of lands in dark beyond the waves

Where pale the starlight water laved.

Under unclouded skies she wished to roam

Beneath the heaven's mighty dome.

Now she returns, for I am no more her

And the white ship touches the shore.

A/N: For those of you who have not found out who the speaker is (you quite possibly haven't read the Silmarillion - do so, it is a great book): Galadriel, the Lady of Light. She was born in the Blessed Realm, Valinor, and left it because she wanted to rule a realm of her own in Middle-earth.

Her brothers are Finrod, Orodreth, Angrod and Aegnor, they all were slain in Beleriand in the First Age. Her daughter is CelebrĂan, wife of Elrond, who was ambushed by Orcs and after that decided to journey to Valinor to find healing. Now let us hope they all wait for her there.
