'You shouldn't let him get to you like that' He says with a gentle sigh, and a stroke of her hair; as the grip she has on him tightens.
'I know.' She responds after a few moments, slightly muffled since her face is still in his jacket. 'I can't help it.'
He chuckles, he's aware of that. He knows the pain she is feeling only too well. He tells her his faux words of wisdom, whilst not listening to them himself.
She shifts slightly, raising her head to look at him. Her pale eyes searching his face for something only she knew.
'You didn't say it.'
He blinks at her, pulled from his reverie. 'Didn't say what?'
She blushes, and he wonders if it's something that embarrassing. He racks his mind, but still draws a blank.
It must have been clear on his face because she tells him. '"It's ok, he just can't see what a Gem you are"'
He sighs deeply, apparently he wasn't as in control as he thought he was. He holds her shoulders, looks her in the eyes and braces himself.
'I can't do this anymore.' It's barely a whisper, but it sends chills through her body.
He walks away from her, she struggles to decide if she should chase him or not; after all, he is one of her closest friends. He stops a few feet away.
'Kiba?' She has to ask, she needs to know how she messed up this time.
'I can feel your warmth Hinata,' his voice breaks as he says her name, his left hand clenching into a fist. 'But I know it's not mine; and it's killing me.'
That last part so inaudible she thinks she might have imagined it. She has no time to dwell on it though, he's walking away again. His shoulders are hunched, and his head is down. This isn't the Kiba she knows.
Running after him, Hinata crashes into his back holding him still. A small sob escaping, as hard as she tried to hold it back.
'I'm sorry, but I love him.' It's all she whispers, still holding on, waiting.
Looking ahead is, sadly, all he does; as his heart aches for her sweet warmth. And still she waits.
