Hello all!
Yeah I know I haven't posted for quite a while, but I had exams and I had to study. This Fanfic is in honour of the ending of my exams! Hooray! :D
This is my very first Divergent Fanfic, so it might be a bit weird. But that's for you all to judge and tell me in your reviews :)
Disclaimer: I couldn't have possibly written the Divergent trilogy seeing that I haven't even read Insurgent yet :P
The blade was cool where it touched the palm of her hand. The hilt seemed so familiar in her hand, the only familiar thing in this alien place. When was the last time she had felt so nervous? And this hesitant? She couldn't remember.
She looked at the bowls in front of her. Pebbles and coals lay side by side; Abnegation and Dauntless. As she stared at them, she wondered - for the millionth time - whether she really wanted to make this decision. Did she really want to become part of that faction which was completely opposite her nature? Did she want to wear plain gray clothes, tie her hair in plaits and be completely average? Even laughing out too loud was frowned upon there! She was used to jumping off trains, throwing daggers and shooting guns. How could she suddenly start dissolving into the background when she had always been the star? The best fighter. The daughter of the Dauntless leader.
But that word kept swimming in her mind: Divergent… Divergent… Divergent…. Divergent...
That was the reason her mother wanted her to Abnegation: so that she would be safe. "Nobody will find out then," she had said.
She met her mother's eyes in the crowd; blue reflected in blue. She saw the tiniest flicker of fear in her mother's eyes - fear that no Dauntless should show. But then the mask was back on. The mask that every Dauntless wore. That's what kept their emotions hidden.
She raised her eyebrows questioningly at her mother, dreading the inevitable answer. Her mother answered her with a small nod. Her heart sank. Now she had to do it.
She looked back to the bowls and made up her mind. She would respect her mother's wishes. And even if she went to Abnegation at heart she would always be a Dauntless. Maybe that's why the Dauntless got tattoos; to show that you always belong to us.
She closed her eyes and slit her palm, letting the blood flow. She opened her eyes when she heard the gasps followed by mutterings. Her heart sank when she saw her fresh blood on the pebbles. No wonder everyone was so astonished. Who had ever heard of a Dauntless-born, Abnegation initiate? But it was final now.
However she sneaked a peek into the Dauntless bowl and felt a smile split on her face. There, on a spitting coal, was a drop of fresh blood. Her blood.
Hidden amongst the Abnegation initiates, Natalie allowed a little giggle to escape her lips. It could be her last giggle but for a moment she didn't care. She knew the reality. That even if she acted like Abnegation, she would always be a Dauntless.
So that was my very first Divergent Fanfic! Hope you all liked it! :)
So please, REVIEW! :D
FYI, the girl here, Natalie, is Triss's mom.
