The wedding had ended a long time ago. And now the blonde little boy and his godmother sat on the steps of the church, revelling in the silence. But then one question brought them both spiralling back to reality.
"Aunt Brooke why did you make Aunt Peyton's wedding dress?"
The girl sighed. She knew this question was coming. It was inevitable.
"Because Peyton is my best friend and I love her very much. And I want her and your Uncle Lucas to be happy together." Brooke explained, as patiently as she could, hoping the five year old would understand her.
"But you love Uncle Lucas. People who love each other are supposed to marry each other." He said his bright blue eyes so filled with innocence and confusion.
Tears filled the brunette's eyes. "I know. I know. But your Uncle Lucas loves Aunt Peyton, not me. Maybe one day when you're older you'll understand."
"I'm five now Aunt Brooke. Remember? You came to my birthday party. I'm old enough to understand. Tell me!! Please tell me Aunt Brooke."
"I've always loved your Uncle Lucas… He's always loved Peyton… and somewhere along the line Peyton fell in love with your Uncle Lucas." The brunette explained slowly.
"So he doesn't love you even though you love him? That's sad. I'm sorry Aunt Brooke."
"I'm sorry too…"
The much older, taller blonde boy stood behind them in the doorway of the church and sighed. He was Jamie's Uncle Lucas now. And he just wished he could go back to the days when he was her Broody.
And the brunette heard his sigh. But she didn't turn to face the other blonde boy. And she just wished she could go back to the days when she was his Pretty Girl.
