Nightmares

Diego awoke with a scream; he had just relived his nightmare; two days after he was kidnapped and he was still having vivid memories. He was just about to call for his parents when the door to his bedroom opened and his father stepped in.

"Daddy!" Diego trembled, "I saw him! They killed me! Daddy they killed me!" He sobbed clutching his bed sheets tightly.

Antonio made no hesitation to sit beside his son on his bed and hold him tightly, "You're right here Diego. He can't hurt you anymore. I promise he won't hurt you anymore."

Diego buried his head into his father and cried, "Daddy they only spoke in Spanish! I can't- I can't-"

"I'll stay here with you tonight," He kissed his head, "Then tomorrow he have an appointment with the best child psychologist in all of Chicago. We're going to get you through this Diego; we're going to get through it as a family.

Tears in his eyes Diego looked at his father, his hero and forced a smile onto his face, "Daddy they said if I screamed they'd kill you and Mommy and Eva. They even said they'd kill Auntie Gabby. Daddy I'm sorry I didn't fight back, that's what you would have done.

"No, no Diego," Antonio soothed him, "You did good, you were so brave; and I'm so proud of you."

"Do you think Mommy will let you teach me boxing now? I want to- I don't want that to ever happen again."

"I won't Diego; now get some sleep; you won't have any nightmares while I'm here to protect you," He told his son and soon the child was asleep again; hopefully this time with all the nightmares gone away.

THE END
