prologue
"Delilah Edna Daniels!" My mother called out to me. I ran down stairs, I knew it was bad if she said my middle name. I went to stand behind her at the open front door. She was staring at my father.

I stared at a man with bronze hair and the palest skin ever. His eyes were crimson, and they were beautiful. Every part of this man on my front step was beautiful. He looked a lot like my father, which scared me. I hadn't seen my father since he disappeared five months ago.
"Hello, Eddy." The man said, and I would possibly have a heart attack then and there. That is what my father always said to me. It didn't help that he looks like him, and looks as if he was terribly sorry for something.
"Who are you?" I asked, my voice carefully guarded and deadpanned. He looked apologetic. It was only when he answered with 'Your Father,' that I finally snapped out of the zombie-like state that I've been in for those dreadful five months. I hugged him tight, and under me I felt him tense. He was colder, harder, and I knew something was strangely wrong. I pulled back, and he, in the flash of an eye, stepped back two steps. He looked like he was trying to control himself from something. Hand on shoulder; Mother was standing at my side.
"What's wrong?" I asked my father. He blinked and stepped further back. I didn't understand. He loved my mother and me. He never did us wrong, he made sure we were always happy. He wouldn't leave us.
"I'm sorry, honey. I'm so sorry. When I left, some… things, they came into the ally I was in and, they—they took me, and they bit me, and there was fire, and the things looked human! I think—I think they were vampires. And, your—your blood, it smells so good, I can't, I can't stand to be around your b—blood, I'm sorry, don't think I'm crazy. I love you. I love you both. I'm sorry." He started to turn, when I yelled to him to wait. "Yes?" He asked. I ran to him but didn't hug him. I grabbed the sleeve of his jacket.
"I have to show you something, just before you go. I brought him inside, turned off all the fans, and made him sit down. I ran to get my laptop, and came back. I searched for the page for vampires that I found when I was a fan, doing reports for the disappearances in Seattle. "See? Vampires can be vegetarians. There's a colony of one in Washington." He shook his head, and smiled. "I love you, Dad." I said, knowing that he won't give in.
"I love you, too. If I ever get control, I promise I'll come back. So never leave this place." He smiled apologetically, and looked at my mother. Tears were streaming down her face. She smiled at him and gave him a light hug, one that would drive him crazy, but she'll live. "I'll love you, forever." She whispered. I kissed a peck on his cheek, and then he left.
I stayed behind hugging my mother for a while, and then we cried ourselves to sleep, holding each other on the couch. Mom clutched a picture of Father, and I clutched them both.
