The Astronomy Tower
The cold wind blew the new born snowflakes in spirals around the castle, they danced past the candlelit windows, past the room that illuminated two new lovers, they circled round the highest towers and came to rest on the face of the one figure alone on this enchanted night.
Draco Malfoy gazed down at the black ground, it would soon be covered in snow. He remembered his words to Pansy and Blaise I think I'd pitch myself off the Astronomy Tower if I had to continue for another two years He smirked at his hands If only my life were that simple The spectres of Voldemort and the broken vanishing cabinet floated in front of his eyes and he looked over the edge again.
So simple He thought All I have to do is jump. Then all the pain would stop. Forever.
He looked up at the approaching blizzard, he had always found snow so beautiful,
In a few hours noone would even know I was gone.
An excitement gripped him as the snow began to fall heavily,
Yes He thought, placing a foot on the top of the railings
Yes!
A hand grabbed his left arm,
"Don't!"
Draco fell backwards knocking over the hand's owner. He scrambled to his feet and drew his wand,
"Who are you!"
Into the snow tinted moonlight stepped Luna Lovegood,
"Why did you stop me! It could be over by now!" Luna looked at him sadly while he shouted at her.
"You stupid girl! Why did you stop me! Why!" Draco's knees buckled under the weight in his heart, he sank to the floor and buried his face in his hands,
"Why?" He whispered.
Luna knelt before him and took his hands in hers,
"Because, noone should die on a night like this" She looked deep into his silvery blue eyes. He shook her hands away and returned to the railing,
"Why do you care?" Luna stood beside him,
"Don't you care about others?" He shook his head.
"That's not true, I'll prove it"
She balanced like a bird about to take off, she looked ethereal, magical as the blizzard whipped her hair around her face,
"NO!"
Draco pulled her from the railings into his arms,
"No, you can't do that"
Luna smiled and pressed her warm lips to his cold ones,
"I knew you would care, you have a heart Draco, show it"
She skipped away into the shadows, Draco listened to her musical step as it spiralled away.
A heart? Me? He smirked but stepped back from the blink of oblivion and with a last, lingering look over the now snow coated railings he followed.
