Neville whistled a tune as he strolled to the greenhouse. Or at least tried to. He was only a moderate whistler and the sound of the castle being rebuilt always threw him off in the morning. Too upsetting.
Fumbling slightly with his wand, Neville opened the door to the greenhouse.
"Hello Neville!"
The wand clattered out of Neville's hand as he registered the source of the greeting. Luna, his best friend, was lying on the floor covered in devils snare! The devils snare didn't seem to be moving, probably because Luna was only lying still underneath them, but she still was stuck.
"Merlin! Luna my god what happened!" exclaimed Neville, snatching his wand back up and moving as close as he could to the vine pile without making it move, lest them crush Luna. "One of the Thestrals broke a window and Sprout asked me to fix it, but some nargles flew in so I cleared them out for her. They could have been hurt on the glass! I think I got to close to the devils snare. Its doesn't hurt, but its a real bother getting out."
Neville smiled slightly, still serene as ever. "Don't worry Luna, i'll help you, um the suns not up yet...oh dear how do I...?" Neville was starting to panic.
"neville?"
"Huh? Yes?" Neville stopped his thoughts to address Luna
"Lumos."
"Huh? Oh. Oh yes! Lumos!" light burst out of his wand and the vines curled away from Luna. He quickly moved to Luna and pulled her up into his chest. "You ok Luna?" he asked. "Yeah. I believe so ." said Luna. Neville inspected her. "Luna you're hurt." said Neville in a serious voice. Luna looked down and noticed a ring of red and ragged skin along her ankle.
"Oh. Oh dear. I'll fix that up." said Luna cheerfully. She bent for her wand which was flung over by the window, but Neville decided to take a chance. He softly put his hands on her waist. "Don't worry i'll do it" he said. Luna straightened and smiled. "Thank you Neville!" she said. He tugged her slightly to the counter and lifted her up onto it. Neville then knelt down to her ankle.
"This might hurt, i'm not as good at these spells as you are." said Neville, starting to regret his move.
"I think you're brilliant." Luna replied. Neville blushed and shot the spell. The skin around her ankle repaired itself. "Lucky there wasn't more damage. People usually don't think to stand still for a while." Said Neville, chuckling.
"The death eaters sometimes tortured us with devil snare." said Luna. "I got used to keeping calm. Mr. Ollivander wasn't as good at it." Luna looked down at her lap. Neville felt his throat go dry. Then he got an idea. He took his wand and pointed it at a sunflower growing in a pot. Muttering a spell under his breath, he made the sunflower leave the dirt behind and lifted the flower roots and all out. It floated to his hand. Silently he gathered a confused Luna's hair in his fist and positions the sunflower at the base. With a tap of his wand the stem and roots wrapped around and through Luna's dirty blond hair.
When his work was done, Neville kissed Luna on the top of the head. Luna gave a gasp of delight and hopped off the counter. She wrapped her arms around his middle and squeezed tight. "Thank you Neville!' She exclaimed. Neville smiled and let his chin rest on her head. He could smell the sunflower and her.
