Oh boy, it's been forever since I updated my fanfiction account. And I also need to update D E S I R E. Did I mention I switched fandoms? Don't get me wrong, I still adore Troypay, I just discovered Dasey :)
Enjoy and R&R please! :)
I awoke suddenly to a loud shrieking noise. No, it wasn't shrieking. Was it a puppy dying? No, we don't have any animals in our house. I hoisted myself up to a sitting position with a couple pillows supporting me from behind. I was barely aware of the dull pain in my stomach because of the even greater fatigue I felt from staying up all night feeding Liam every two hours.
I reached my arm out to the left side of the huge king sized bed, looking for my apparently non-existent husband, Derek.
"Babe, what's going on?" I shouted groggily.
I leaned my head back and rubbed my eyes gently until the world seemed a bit more clear. I was too lazy(and tired) to actually get up and wander around the house, so I just closed my eyes and reminisced to a day just three months ago. A much more peaceful day in which I had gotten at least twelve times more sleep.
"Can you believe we're going to be parents in a week? God, it feels like just yesterday we found out we were pregnant."
"Derek, do you think we're ready? I mean, we have the crib, the car seat, clothes, everything! But are we ready to take care of a little human being that's all our own?" I held my head in my hands and reached down as far as I could go without having my protruding belly in the way.
"Of course we're ready. Would God have given us this miracle if we weren't?" Derek kissed the hair surrounding my face softly.
He continued to plant kisses all over my face, saving my lips for last.
"God, you really know how to tease a pregnant woman..."
"Liam, you're really not cooperating with Daddy today, aren't you? Well, we're going to have to change that.." I heard a voice in the nursery. So that's where Derek must have been this entire time. Am I stupid, or what?
I finally got out of bed after a year of procrastinating and tiptoed over to the nursery. I peeked in with my body pressed against the wall. Derek was lifting Liam above his head and they were both smiling as if it were the most entertaining thing in the world. Tears filled my eyes as I witnessed this tender, loving moment between father and son.
I stepped back a little to make room to wipe my eyes with the sleeve of my knit cardigan, and heard Liam coo softly. I wasn't sure if he had seen me from far away as his vision was still improving, but the smile on his face squeezed my heart and the lone tears turned into quiet sobs.
Derek probably heard me, as he turned around slowly and met my eyes with a smile that was so bright, that it probably lit up my world.
"Get your butt over here, Case. You know you're part of this family too, right?" I giggled and walked over to the ever joyous father-son duo.
"Family. We're not just a couple anymore, Der. We're actually a family."
"That we are."
