Twenty five year old Amanda Prentriss was graduating from the FBI academy. She looked like a clone of her mom, tall with dark brown hair, dark brown eyes. For Emily, raising her hadn't been easy. Especially with no husband or father in the picture. Her own mother Mabel Prentriss was no help at all and insisted that Emily take complete responsibility for raising Amanda. If she wanted to keep her.

Shortly after giving birth, Emily went to live with her Aunt Emma who helped out a lot. She was sitting with Emily with a smile on her face. Emily's mom was too busy to attend. To Emily, this was very sad as her own mother had rarely seen or interacted with Amanda. Her mom didn't care too much for babies or children. Aunt Emma (sister of Mabel) who never had any children of her own had been more of a mother to Emily than her own mother. Mabel and Emma were sisters but very different lives and people. Opposites in every way it seemed.

The only person who knew about Amanda prior to the graduation was David Rossi. After working a difficult case, she had told him about her pregnancy at age 15 and the difficulties and challenges she had faced. The others were quite shocked to learn that she was the mother of a 25 year old daughter. Emily had a difficult time opening up to others. They had worked with her for years but didn't really know her that well.
