Chapter 1

She didn't really understand what made men practically fall at her feet. They all wanted her and they all tried to win her heart but they never succeeded. She saw them for who they really were. They all just wanted to be with her for all her money. Kagome had a difficult time being the daughter of Japan's biggest mob boss. It never bothered her though. She knew that her father would be there to protect her when she needed it. But when her mother tried, again and again, to get her to pick someone so she could be as happy as her mother, it made her angry. Her father tried to reassure her every time and it worked.

Her mother had called her into the living room like she did everyday but this time it felt different. As Kagome walked into the giant living room in one of the four houses they lived in she saw her mother wiping tears away from her face.

"Mother you called for me?"

As her mother turned to look at her Kagome noticed she was holding her father's hat. The same hat that Kagome had watched her father put onto his head before he walked out the door. The same hat that Kagome had bought her father for his last birthday. The same hat that now had a bullet hole and was covered in blood.

Kagome immediately fell to her knees and began to cry. She could not believe her father was really gone. She had never thought this day would come so soon. She felt her mother wrap her arms around her shoulders and it just made the tears come faster. Kagome knew she would have to take her father's place. She had been trained by her father himself.

He wanted to make sure she could take over by herself. He took the time to make sure she would be ready for anything. And now she was glad he did.

Sesshomaru didn't want to be the bearer of bad news as much as the next guy who was under Mr. Higurashi. He knew that Mrs. Higurashi wouldn't take it too well. And then when Mr. Higurashi's daughter walked into the room his heart sank. He saw how attached she was to her father. He would take Kagome just about everywhere he went. Sesshomaru sat in the living room for thirty minutes before Kagome stood up and wiped her tears away.

"What happened to him?"

Sesshomaru sighed and motioned for her to sit. As she sat down he looked her right in the eyes.

"I promise you won't like what I have to tell you."

She squared her shoulders as if to dare him to attack her.

"We were going to the Hideout when we were surrounded by Koga's cars. They made us move off the road to a secluded spot. When we stopped Koga had his men get your father out of the car. When he and Koga where face to face, Koga asked your father if he could have you."

Sesshomaru laid his hand on top of Kagome's.

"I don't have to tell you what happened next. You know what your father said to him. But Koga let us go until we got to the bar."

Kagome wiped the tears from her face.

"He told me while we were driving back to the Hideout that he could see his life was coming to an end. He told me that he wanted me to make sure you were taken care of until you didn't need me."

Kagome closed her hand around Sesshomaru's fingers.

"He wants you to make sure I'm ok until I get married."

Sesshomaru nodded.

Kagome took a deep breath and stood up.

"Well let's go make funeral arrangements and then go to the Hideout. I have a bar and a mob to run."

Sesshomaru got up off the couch and lead the way to the car. He opened the door for her and as she got in he knew he was going to have to try his best to make her smile as soon as this was all over. He got in the driver's seat and looked in the rear view mirror at one of the only heirs to the Higurashi estate. He only hoped that Sota didn't get in the way of what her father wanted her to have.
