Ludwig glanced at his watched and scanned the field again.
"I told him to be here half an hour ago" he grumbled
He crossed his arms and scowled. Had Feliciano gotten lost? Fallen asleep? Or even worse; captured again? Ludwig ran a hand through his blonde hair wondering if he should go look for Feliciano.
"Ludwig!" a voice called out
A young red-head waved cheerfully and rushed over the field to where Ludwig stood. He stopped beside the taller nation and bent down to catch his breath.
"I'm sorry, I'm late," Feliciano wheezed
"It's fine," Ludwig mumbled
"So, why are we meeting all the way out here?" The Italian wondered
"Come with me," Ludwig instructed
He led the way into the hangar that stood by the field. In the hangar five planes stood. Their finishes glinted in the light.
"Wow! Planes" Feliciano gasped
"That's right. My friends have been building a fleet lately. Of course with the international sanctions we had to keep it secret. Soon though, these planes will fly and we'll be able to fight an aerial war as well as a ground war," Ludwig explained
Ludwig then went to the corner and pulled two jackets and aviator helmets. He handed one set to Feliciano who looked at the items. Then he gave Ludwig a confused look.
"You're coming with me," Ludwig stated matter-of-factly.
"But, Ludwig! I've never been in a plane before. It's dangerous, and I don't like heights," Feliciano protested. He tried to leave, but Ludwig caught him. He hoisted Feliciano into the passenger's seat, and he himself slipped into the driver's seat. Soon the engine was roaring and the propellers were turning. Ludwig drove out of the hangar and sped out onto the runway. Faster and faster the plane sped until it lifted off. Ludwig adjusted and the plane climbed into the sky. Finally Ludwig pulled the plane level and pointed it north.
"Feliciano, look" Ludwig breathed
The Italian uncurled himself and glanced out over the wing. His breath caught. Spread out before him the fields of Germany looked like a green patchwork quilt.
"Ve-It's beautiful," Feliciano gasped, for once speechless.
They turned west and the sunset bathed them in golden and red light. They were up high and the world spread out below them. Feliciano had never felt so free. His heart beat a little faster and a giddy feeling rushed through him as he felt the wind against his hair and face.
"Yahooooo. Ludwig! This is amazing!" he cheered
"I know," Ludwig answered
"Thank you for bringing me up here," Feliciano stated
"It's not a problem," Ludwig answered
He smiled as he turned the plane back toward the hangar. Yes, Ludwig had wings now. He could fly and he could fight. For right now though, he simply enjoyed the freedom of being so high up in the air.
'I hope these wings will give me strength. Maybe these wings will help me protect you, Feliciano,'Ludwig thought
They would have to return to the ground eventually, but for now both nations simply soared.
The End
So America is usually represented as the aviator character, but Germany's airforce was also an important part of Germany's war strategy and one of the most advanced air forces at the time. I figured Germany should show off his pilot skills too and him taking Feliciano for his first flight just seemed like a perfect opportunity for a little shameless fluff. Anyway thanks for reading.
