A/n: Tag to "The End" (Episode 5.04.) Slight spoilers. Oneshot.

Oh, and yes- the title and summary are inspired by Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer"!

It's quiet in the Impala. Dean watches Sam out of the corner of his eye, and Sam notices.

Dean quickly shifts his gaze to the road, staring straight ahead as the corn fields whiz past them on both sides.

"Dean—" Sam begins.

"Sam, it's fine," Dean answers gruffly.

"No, Dean, I just wanted to say something," Sam says hurriedly, turning towards the window to avoid Dean's line of vision.

"I think we've said enough, Sam," Dean says, lowering his voice a bit.

"It's not an apology again, Dean. It's just—," he falters, absentmindedly adjusting his jacket as he tries to find the words to say.

"I know how messed up this all is, Sam. You don't have to tell me," Dean begins, letting his voice trail off when he hears Sam clear his throat.

"I just wanted to say thanks, Dean," Sam offers quietly.

They drive in silence for several minutes. Dean's steely green eyes are completely focused on the road. He is channeling his conflicting thoughts into a straight, taut line, and he doesn't intend to stray very far from that path.

Sam exhales slowly and looks over at Dean.

Dean lets his eyes dart over to Sam's uncertain, expectant gaze. He breaks the eye contact after a second and quietly says,

"You're welcome, Sammy."

He flicks on the radio and can't help but grin as the opening riff of "Back in Black" blares from the speakers.

The End.
