Nina looked around her new high school and couldn't believe her eyes. "This place is a dump," she muttered to herself, flipping her bangs over her right eye. Her pink hair was cut in a dramatic A-line starting at the nape of her neck and going down to her shoulders in the front. As she made her way down the main hall toward the office a girl with blonde hair bumped right into her. "Hey! Watch where you're going, blondie!" she snapped.
"Ugh!" the blonde replied, dusting off her light purple skirt. "Great, another freaky goth kid!" With that the blonde haired girl stormed off, a hand on her hip, a purse hanging off her wrist.
Nina rolled her eyes, hoisting her "Emily the Strange" bag higher onto her shoulder. "Preps," she sighed straightening her black and white pleated mini skirt and pulling her black vest down a bit. Her red and black striped tie swung slightly as she entered the main office of the school. "Hi, I'm Nina Johnson, the new transfer student," she said to the lady at the front desk.
The lady didn't even look up as she pulled out Nina's class schedule. "You have locker number 328 and your combination is 13-6-16," she said, writing on a sticky note that she then put on the schedule before handing it over, finally looking at Nina and freezing.
"Is there a problem ma'am?" Nina asked sweetly, straightening her finger-less gloves.
The lady at the desk cleared her throat and replied, "Not at all Ms. Johnson."
As Nina walked out of the office and towards her locker she couldn't help but laugh a little. She always loved peoples reactions to how she looked.
When she finally made it to her first period class, Nina had gotten 15 weird looked and 12 double takes, a new personal best for her first day at a new school.
"Welcome to Algebra 2 Honors, Ms. Johnson," the teacher said with a smirk after looking at Nina's schedule to verify that she was in the right class. "I hope you are ready for a chalenge, because this class is not going to be an easy one."
Nina smirked back at the teacher, "I doubt it'll be all that hard."
The teacher, a tall thin woman with long wispy brown hair that was pulled back into a bun, narrowed her eyes, studying the teen. "All right then, take a seat next to Ms. Carmichael. Ms. Carmichael, please raise your hand so Ms. Johnson knows where to sit.
A dark skinned girl with her hair pulled back with a bandanna raised her hand and Nina made her way to the back of the room and took a seat next to her. "Hi," said the girl. "The name's Susie, what's yours?"
Nina looked the girl up and down, taking in her light blue tank top that showed off a small section of her stomach and her studded jeans. "Nina," she replied taking out a note book and opening it to the first clean page she could find. The pages before it were all filled with anime fan-art and original characters.
"You draw?" Susie asked, clearly knowing the answer already.
"Uh, yeah," Nina replied blushing slightly. Most people didn't care about her drawings. They were all to turned away by the way she dressed. "Mainly anime though, I'm not very good at realism."
Susie smiled. "That's cool. I don't know that many people who draw, much less who draw anime."
The artist laughed, "That's funny, 'cause most of the people I know only draw anime." The two girls laughed together until the tardy bell rang and the teacher started class.
