Why did it have to happen like this? Why did he have to die? Dante could have saved him and yet…yet he killed his own bother. But how could he have known it was his brother in the armor. How could he have known that the last memory he would have of his brother would be watching him explode into nothing?
The blast Vergil created threw Dante back and knocked him out. It had been four hours until Dante woke up. He looked up to see Vergil's amulet hanging, just hanging, on a broken pillar. Dante grabbed it and looked around. Maybe Vergil wasn't dead. Maybe it has all been a dream.
No. Vergil had died. Dante made sure of that. That thought made Dante sick to his stomach. How would he return to Devil May Cry knowing that the memories of Vergil would haunt him. Everything in his shop would remind him of the brother he never wanted to lose.
Dante had loved Vergil, even id he didn't always show it. They has always had an odd relationship. Even when they were children, Vergil always managed to beat Dante at everything. The only time Dante beat Vergil, he had killed him. Dante was a murderer. There was nothing he could do to change that.
Dante looked down at Vergil's amulet. It looked old and worn. It was obvious that Vergil wore the amulet a lot. Dante slowly rotated the amulet and noticed something inscribed on the back.
To my son, Nero. May you wear this with pride.
This small message filled Dante with hope. Maybe he couldn't bring Vergil back. /but maybe, just maybe, /he could protect his son. Dante walked off, in search for the nephew he would protect from the shadows.
