The Hard things

Draco punched at the wall, he was a Malfoy for crying out loud he did hard things all the time. Hell he had even attempted to kill Dumbledoor, true he wasn't able to carry out that deed but he had attempted it. Why must this be even harder to do than murder.

"Because murder is easier than swallowing your pride." Came a small voice within that he had been listening to more and more lately..an old friend. His conscience. "So is suicide." Draco said to the empty room. 'Yes it is but then you would never forgive yourself; not even in the afterlife.'

Draco put his face in his hands as looked through the fingers looking at the empty room, it was empty and devoid of others just as he was and as the shadows danced across the walls from the torch light he knew he couldn't stay within the shadows forever and he knew that he would have to step out, no matter how hard it would be.

Draco knew where she was, it was no secret to him and he had been putting this off for years now. "You can do this, Draco." The Malfoy heir said to himself as opened her gate and began walking up her sidewalk. His attention was grabbed by the roses growing along the walk and he had for almost a moment thought of taking one.

'No, just be sincere in your efforts.' said the small voice within him and pushed him further up the wallk.

Draco stood on the door step for several minutes pacing and walking to the door before quickly turning away, his mind in confusion, his heart in anguish before he finally steeled himself and knocked upon the door.

A young girl answered the phone. "Hi, who are you?" The young girl asked in surprise. "Mom!" She shouted. "Some guy is at the door!" She said before turning away and almost running into her mother.

"Thank you Rose, I do appreciate you not—" Hermione said as she suddenly stopped when she saw Draco, last time she saw him was at Ron's funeral, he was in the shadows underneath the tree's but he was there. "Draco." Heremione voiced.

"Hermione this is one of the hardest things I've ever done." Draco said as he then let release a sigh. "I'm sorry." He said soft but clear.

"Draco." Hermione said in a soft tone. "I know you are." She said non-hostile but but life has moved on. I've forgotten those days. Draco" Hermione said as she held the door firmly not allowing further entry.

"I want to start over Hermione." Draco said with sincerity hoping she could hear the anguish in her voice.

"I already have, Draco." Hermione said before stepping back and with a look of sadness in her eyes closed the door upon him; the click of the door deafening to his ears as Draco turned and walked away.
