A/N I saw this super cute prompt on tumblr about who in the OTP sends good morning texts and who is the one that hates them; I just had to!

Merida really isn't a morning person.

She has every right; it's too cold, the birds are too loud, and the sun has a horrible habit of shining directly into her eyes once sunrise rolls along.

She doesn't have anything against the morning per se; she would just rather sleep through it than have to deal with it.

But of course, Elsa doesn't agree with that approach at all.

Elsa believes in watching the sunrise, singing with the birds, and drinking coffee on balconies (Merida's dorm doesn't have one, but she stands next to the window so that suffices).

Elsa also believes in disgustingly cute good morning texts.

Before the sky even has a chance to turn blue, Merida is always awakened by a vibration under her pillow, and groggily she'll just about make out the impromptu message.

Today is no different.

Good morning baby! I was out jogging and I just wanted to make sure you had a nice way to wake up! I love you! xx

Merida's mouth quirks at the message, but the vague smile drops as soon as she sees the time at the top of the screen.

6:38 AM

As furiously as she can, with her wild hair obscuring her vision slightly, she texts back.

Elsa I'm trying 2 sleep why do u hate me?

Immediately, Merida's phone buzzes (Merida should have known better than to send a message; now she'll never get back to sleep). She sighs, throwing her legs over the side of the bed and stretching before picking up the phone again.

Sweetheart, the day is just beginning and you should be awake experiencing it! xx

Merida's eye twitches; Elsa knows how much she hates these sugary terms of endearment. And waking up before 10.

i was experiencing it...sleeping is an experience...a very important one that i'm missing out on

Merida chuckles, imagining Elsa rolling her eyes at her sleep-centered worldview.

Honey, you really need to live more xx

The door to her dorm opens, and Merida transforms into her self-defense mode, before realizing that she's clad in only underwear and a sweater, and that Elsa is the only one with the key to her room anyway.

Her girlfriend walks in, all bright eyes and jogging gear, carrying two piping hot cups of coffee and a bag from the cafe off campus. Merida is still slightly irritated that she was unwillingly coerced out of her sleep, but she can't help but think that Elsa looks stunning in the morning.

"Hi baby!" Elsa says, setting the coffee on Merida's desk.

Merida exaggeratedly groans her discontent, smiling when Elsa brushes some of her hair out of the way and places a gentle kiss to her forehead. Her eyes follow Elsa as she makes her way over to the window, pulling the blinds and bringing some light into the room.

Elsa sighs contentedly, turning to Merida and saying,"Look at what you're missing out on!"
Merida huffs, crossing her arms, and looks at her empty, messy bed,"I am."

Elsa shakes her head; at this point she's used to Merida's bouts of childish stubbornness. She goes back to the desk, taking one coffee for herself and handing the other to Merida. Merida hums when the warmth of her coffee cup spreads through her palms, and relishes the first sip; Elsa always knows how to make her coffee.

"Do you want to watch the sunrise with me?"

Elsa holds out her hand, and looks so beautiful and happy that Merida's hearts almost breaks a little bit. Again, Merida sighs, but places her hand in Elsa's and allows herself to be led over to the window. Merida slides her arm around Elsa's waist and pulls her closer, ignoring whatever complaints Elsa has about her jogging smell.

As Elsa rests her head on Merida's shoulder and the two clink coffee cups, admiring the rosy colored sky before them, Merida can almost appreciate this early morning romantic stuff.

Almost.
