"Sometimes, I honestly wonder why they ever let you into the field."
Connor Temple looked up from the newest piece of technology that he was trying to invent to meet Becker's disapproving eyes.
"How can you say that? I'm brilliant in the field!" He replied haughtily, looking hurt.
"Connor, how many times have you almost died in this past week alone?"
He paused to think about this, tapping the screwdriver he was using to try and fix what Becker could only describe as a heap of junk, against his chin.
"Three, I think. But one of those was Abby's fault. She should've told me how sensitive those guns were."
Connor was fully in defensive mode now. Sure, his field of expertise was science and inventing useful arc equipment but he'd been training really hard with the guns and was hoping that someone would notice. The only comment that he'd got was from Abby, telling him he'd left the flash light of the gun on. Plus, Becker had the unfair advantage of actually having trained for this at Sandhurst. Connor hadn't even got his degree yet.
"Maybe you should just stick to the labs? I have a hard enough time trying to keep everyone else alive without having to babysit you as well."
Connor shot him a contemptuous glare before stalking off to the other side of the lab and fiddling with another contraption. Becker followed. "Seriously Action Man, do you not having anything better to do? Go shoot something and leave me alone."
"I wish I could," Becker said wistfully. "But there's nothing going on. And the shooting range is full."
Connor would never fully understand Becker's trigger-happy attitude to absolutely everything just like Becker would never understand how Connor could get so excited over Star Trek. They were simply different.
"Well go bother Sarah, I'm sure she'd be more than happy to have you hanging around," Connor smirked, heading back to his earlier invention. Again, Becker followed.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Becker said, almost defensively.
"Nothing," Connor muttered.
They stood in silence for awhile, Connor working on the device and Becker fidgeting with a few of what appeared to be spare wires. Until he touched them together, causing sparks to fly through the air, startling Connor. He slapped Becker's hands away, giving him a disbelieving look.
"Sometimes, I honestly wonder if you've got a brain."
Just something between Connor and Becker I thought about after watching the diictodon episode.
