An altercation in an alley.
-That's how everything started-.
A chain of events.
The suspect ran.
He was trying to escape.
! NYPD! ! Freeze !
That was not enough. Not an enough reason for the suspect to stop. And so he went.
He kept running-.
Beckett was chasing after him with Castle hot on her heels.
The suspect climbs a chain link fence and then jumps it and keeps going.
Beckett doesn't know how she does it, but she climbs it and jumps it too.
It's a mystery how the human body works. How the adrenaline is produced in the body when stress, danger, excitement or any unexpected changes in the environment occur. -A little of adrenaline and you can do anything-.
She's aware of the fact that even though she did not feel anything, later she will. It's only been 4 months since the surgery…
She hears castle's footsteps behind her. She knows he's still right behind her.
She smirks. -He even managed to climb and jump the chain link fence too-.
And Suddenly. It happens.
The suspect comes to a halt. Turns around and points a gun at her.
Where did that gun come from?
It shouldn't affect her. It shouldn't trigger anything –but it does.
-Fear. Hopelessness and intense horror.-
The last time it happened was the first day she got back to work.
–Twice-.
It had happened. The second time Castle was with her and she was able to fight it. Confront it. The anxiety was there but she was able to work through it.
She still has nightmares. They are not recurrent but she has them. -Nightmares where the event happens again-
Flashbacks. A persistent re-experiencing of what happened that day. Just another symptom of PTSD-
She still avoids thoughts, feelings or having conversations regarding the event. –She even avoided activities, situations or persons that could have surfaced the event. Or so she tried, for 3 months.
But now it was different. Something was different.
Suddenly she doesn't remember how she got there. But she's on a field with wide expanses of grass. The wind is breezing her face just like it was during the eulogy. The blue sky.
Oh god-
It hits her.
Now it makes sense.
-The trigger was not only the suspect pointing the gun at her but the situation she was in-.
The field...-
Everything she has tried to avoid.
-Oh god- not now-
Perspiration, shaking, breathlessness, nausea, dizziness.
–All Symptoms of Panic attack-
She is frozen.
Afraid of losing control and afraid of dying. She can´t breathe.
Kate…- Castle says, breathless.
And suddenly she remembers that she is not alone.
There is a suspect pointing a gun at her.
She is putting Castle in danger.
She needs to do something now.
Quick- She needs to fight it.
I…-
The suspect is now pointing the gun at Castle-
And that´s all she needs to snap out of it.
