As The Bloom Falls
Disclaimer: I don't own Phantom
Author's Note: I've always adored writing poetry, and I was inspired to write this after I heard an especially beautiful version of All I Ask Of You on Pandora Radio. I, myself, am an E/C fan, but you can view this as an E/C ship or an R/C ship - whatever makes you happy :) Since this is my first time publishing poetry on this site, reviews would be absolutely wonderful! Just to let me know if it is worth pursuing :) Thank you!
From a shaking white grasp it tumbles
And begins to descend through the frost.
From Apollo, an echo of sobbing bumbles
And the bloom of love is lost.
She was never his to keep, he knew
And he hated himself for trying.
How could he have expected to cage the blue
Bird? To himself he was only lying.
As the stem leaves her palm she forgets him,
And all she sees is the promise of protection.
Though he would have protected her til his dying breath,
He was never fated to know her affection.
For what they shared was only a spell
An illusion like everything else.
Beneath the artifice was only corruption
An obsession that, though unhealthy
Was more real to him than anything else.
The rose has fallen, now, and lies in the snow
The red contrasts with the white.
It looks very much like his bleeding heart
And that is when the songbird takes flight.
