They hover near the corner of the room, absorbed in one another and oblivious to the smiles directed their way.
They both perch against the back of a couch, Andy's ankles twined with Sam's. She leans into him, glad for his solid strength and he plays with the tips of her hair as they cascade down her back.
The TV is muted; but the picture is bright and joyful, camera panning in and out of Time's Square and the glowing ball.
There's a couple minutes before the big moment; people are settling into comfortable seats and conversing happily with friends. Oliver and Zoe are on the couch, their youngest daughter asleep on his lap. The other girls are off somewhere with Leo and Boo. From the moment the kids set eyes on the scruffy mutt, they fell in love.
Frank's house is filled with people and the remnants of a massive diner have already been cleared away. Now they await the drop of a ball and several of them silently cheer when they catch sight of Sam and Andy.
The year had been long and hard for both of them but they had both finally reached a good place and gotten all the bottled words in the air.
As the clock slowly makes it to the final ten seconds, everyone gathers in the living room and the kids make an appearance, Boo trailing behind with a happy doggy grin. He settles himself at Sam's feet and earns a pat from Andy. He licks her hand before she can escape and she wipes the slobber on Sam's shirt with a laugh.
He simply gives her a look and flicks her nose.
When she snorts, he just flashes his dimples and she lets him pull her back into the circle of his arms.
The clock strikes 11:59.50 and everyone begins to call out the countdown loudly.
Boo barks along with them, much to the general amusement of the room.
"Happy New Year!" The room calls and people with a significant other lean in to kiss.
Sam kisses Andy deeply but with a sweet edge. When they pull apart, Andy's eyes sparkle and Sam can't help but be filled with joy.
Then Boo shoves his nose between their legs and they both erupt into laughter.
