Disclaimer: I do not own Yugioh or any of its related themes or characters.
Spoiler alert: I haven't actually watched the end of Yugioh... but this is my opinion of how the end would be.

Break Even

Yugi Mutou sighed, rolling over once again. He never used to have so much trouble falling asleep. He stared blankly at the wall in front of him, wide awake. It was already past three in the morning and he knew that he would have to, at least, form some sort of pattern of sleep before the end of the week. After all, school started within a week, and at the moment, the pattern he was forming would have him going to school in a zombie-state. He wasn't particularly looking forward to that.
He rolled back and stared at his dresser. The puzzle was still there. Still hanging on the chain... lifeless... no... soulless.
.
Three days ago they were all still in Egypt, all together. A team. A family. Nothing would ever have to change. But then, the Pharoah... Atem... chose to leave.
He could have changed, if he wanted to. Yugi was sure of that. If he wanted to.
The young boy could still remember Yami's expression. Proud, relieved, happy. He was happy to leave. And Yugi couldn't help but feel his own heart break as Atem left him to go back to his old home. Perhaps it was true... hearts never break evenly.
Yugi swung his legs off the edge of the bed, staring vacantly in front of him. On the rare occasions he would develop some type of insomnia, he could always talk to the Pharoah... They would sit together for hours, not really 'talking' as per se, but just letting the thoughts flow. In the end, they would usually end up talking about Yami's past, or at least, what Yami thought was his past... they would talk about Yugi's childhood, how things have changed so much over time. And in the end, they would somehow just drift into a calm oasis of nothingness.
But right now, all Yugi was left with was his own thoughts. And they started to feel more and more trivial and lonely.
He got up and shuffled towards his door, not even bothering to tone down the noise as he made his way downstairs. His grandpa was used to this by now. No longer did gramps ask him why he was up so late, why he would be awake at five in the morning, why he barely ate.
.
The young boy opened the fridge door, staring at the contents.
Milk... Yugi loved it, Yami tolerated it.
Frozen pizza... it took Yugi three weeks to teach Yami how to use the microwave without having sparks flying out.
Ice-cream... they could never decide between Mint Choc and Fudge Delight.
Yugi grabbed both tubs of ice-cream, sitting down at the counter after closing the fridge. He stared at both containers. He wasn't sure any more which were his favourite. Was it Mint Choc? ... Was it Fudge Delight?
... but all he could remember was he and Yami always ended up mixing both together, and it always tasted like the best ice-cream they ever had. Not because of the flavour, but because of the company it held.
