Author's Note: If you want to know the "theme" for this chapter/the prologue it is: Please Stay With Me by YUI.

Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh!, obviously Kazuki Takahashi does. The only thing I own is my OC Amara.

.::Prologue::.

The sting of salt water welling up within her eyes blurred everything around her. With each passing moment the world became more and more obscured, colors mixing together in an indistinguishable mess. Fight it as she might, the tears would not stop, they seemed as endless as her despair. Why? Why was this happening? Closing her eyes tightly, she shook her head vehemently as she desperately clutched the weight in her arms to herself.

Though she could not necessarily see them due to her blurry vision, she could hear, see, and smell the flames that were certainly encroaching around her. It did not seem, though, as if she cared if the flames were to take her. Breathing in deeply, she whispered hoarsely.

"Please...don't leave me...Open your eyes!" She pleaded, gently shaking the body within her arms.

She may as well have been speaking to the air as all that greeted her was silence. Any other time in her life, silence had never seemed as terrible as it did in this moment. She would have done and given anything to change it all.

Then, slowly, she began to notice an odd sensation. Her brow furrowed deeply as she tried to place this feeling. It felt as if the body within her arms were growing lighter within her hold. Her breaths stopped, her eyes growing wide with shock and horror. Dread settled at the bottom of her stomach, cold and heavy as lead. Her hold tightened as if through sheer will she could keep her grip. Desperation and grief struck her like a ton of stone, crushing her beneath it just as hopelessly.

"N-No...No...please...Do not do this to me..." She begged as she looked skyward, her voice rough.

It would seem her pleas would fall on deaf ears as she would not be granted a reprieve. Her words were quickly swallowed up by a gasp. She sat there numbly as she flexed her fingers and moved her arms for what seemed like an eternity.

She did not need her sight to know that the body was gone.

Forever.

It was as if the proverbial flood gates opened with this realization and she could not hold back the piercing, anguished scream that left her lips.

Well, I hope everyone liked this small bit, so far. It has been a really, really long time since I've written anything, so I apologize if I am a bit rusty. I am trying to get back to writing and working on stories, but I am using this one as a bit of a jump starter. Last few years have been rough on me, creativity/writing wise. See you all, next chapter.
