Wishes
by Jennifer Allen

Four teenage boys lay in the soft green grass staring up at the night sky. They were four young men with bright futures. The world was theirs. They were indestructible. In two days, they would be going back to school. Their last year at Hogwarts. They were four teenage boys spending their last days of summer together and without a care in the world.

The stars were shining brightly in the moonless sky. The boys lay in a circle. They hadn't even bothered to change out of their swim trunks, and why should they? There was no one else around to complain.

"Look, shooting stars!"
"Peter, those aren't stars."
"Then what are they, Remus?"
"Meteors. They are almost always visible during this time of the year."
"Who cares if they are stars of meteors, let's make a wish."
"A what? Why would we be making wishes on those, Sirius?"
"You poor unfortunate soul. I pity you. It's fun. We all tell each other our wishes. You first, Prongs."
James closed his eyes and concentrated. When he opened his dark eyes, he stared wistfully at the night sky.
"I wish we could be together, forever. Marauders forever."
"Here here! Wormtail?"
"I wish I had a picture of Snape after we decided he'd be pretty in pink."
The boys all laughed at the memory. Severus Snape had been the target of many of their pranks and this year would be no exception. Before they left school for the summer, they had decided to transfigure Snape's black robes into pink ones. He wasn't happy at all.
"Okay, Moony. What's your wish?"
Remus smiled thoughtfully.
"I don't have a wish."
"Come on, Moony. You have to make a wish!"
"Okay," he sighed. "I wish people were as receptive of my curse like you guys are."
"Always the sensitive one," Sirius remarked. "It'll come true, don't worry."
"Okay, Padfoot, what's your wish?"
"I wish I could see Lily in that black bikini one more time!"
"OH GOD!"
"SIRIUS!"
"Should have know...I should have known."
