Authors Note

Woo hoo! I haven't written any stories in a long, long time (well over a year)! I've had this idea for a FFX-2 fanfic and had to get it down. Hope you enjoy!

"Forgetting and Remembering"

Prologue

Lulu awoke, startled, in the dead of night. She had just dreamt her worst fear; her child had been missing. It's natural for a new mother to worry about her child, Lulu thought, taking a deep breath. Her child was sure to be in the cradle beside her and Wakka's bed. But still, Lulu had to take a look, just to ease her mind. She awoke Wakka, who asked, "Lulu, what's the matter?" "Just checking up on the baby Wakka, go back to sleep".

Peering down into the cradle, Lulu stood shocked. The cradle was bare; "Wakka, the baby is missing!" Lulu yelled. He sat up from the bed in a daze, as Lulu ran out the door of their home.

Heart racing, Lulu searched anxiously for a glimpse of the perpetrator who stole her child. She ran towards the temple and peered inside, but it barely populated with late night worshipers. Frustrated and not willing to disturb the worshipers, she left the temple and went past the homes that lined Besaid. Lulu stopped when she found a tiny blue blanket – it was her baby's blanket. Saddened, she picked it up and held it close to her chest, a tear rolling down her check. She could hear Wakka far behind her, entering the homes of Besaidians and informing them of their missing child.

The blanket was found towards the entrance of the woods. It was obvious the thief would want to go as far from the town as possible, so Lulu decided it would be best to follow the trail.

Tired, she walked through the wooden trail. Her heart dropped as she questioned the thief's motives. Why would someone want my child? What use is a baby to anyone? Will I ever see my baby again? She used her magic to light a torch made of a group of tree branches. Within the dim light of the flames, she noticed a shadow move within the trees. Alert, she followed the faint sound of bristling branches. The sound seemed to be moving towards the grand cliff that overshadowed a quiet river beneath it. Lulu wondered if the thief did not know the Besaid area and had come to a dead end. She knew she would be able to confront the individual and defeat them with her magic. This knowledge made Lulu more confident and more eager to get to the cliff.

Lulu's thought was correct; surprised, a cloaked individual looked up at Lulu from underneath their hood. Lulu was unclear of the gender of the individual, but could only notice to cold, bear eyes that locked onto hers. Lulu shivered. Within the cloak, it was evident that the individual was carrying a bundle – Lulu's child. "Give me the child – you'll regret it if you do not," Lulu said, a flame of fire growing in her right palm, her left hand still carrying the flickering torch. The cloaked person turned their back to Lulu, perhaps planning their next move. "Give me my child!" Lulu shouted, quickly making her way towards the cloaked person. She forcefully grabbed at the person's arm, trying to pry them open. Before Lulu could acknowledge it, she felt a sharp pain in her chest – the mysterious cloaked figure at placed the long blade of a silver knife into her chest. She gasped, thoughts racing in her mind. Lulu thought quickly of using magic on the figure, but knew it would danger her child. Soon, her eyes glazed and her thoughts turned fuzzy. The cloaked person pulled out the knife, and Lulu's helpless body fell from the heightened cliff and drowned into its watery grave.
