Revenge and Redemption: the Story of the Shiny Ninetails

Prologue

The world of Pokémon; a land filled action and adventure, fun and excitement. Even the Pokémon not being cared for by a trainer can still live a happy and fun life.

At least, most of them can.

Once, there was a family of wild Ninetails and Vulpix living in the Johto Region – specifically, in a hidden village in the area just north of the human's Goldenrod City. They lived a peaceful life, no trainers trying to capture them, and no enemies anywhere near their home.

The kits were a litter of just two. The young girl was named Kairi. Her brother, Kunay, was different. He wasn't the usual light orange color of your standard, every-day Vulpix, but a golden color; Kunay was a shiny Vulpix.

As said above, they lived a happy life. As implied above that, however, it wouldn't last.

It was the day of Kairi and Kunay's fortieth birthday – and among Vulpix and Ninetails, that was still considered very young. It was still an important milestone in the life of any Vulpix: the day that he or she received a Fire Stone from the village elder, Kuruma. It is these Fire Stones that allow Vulpix to evolve and transform into Ninetails. And today was the day that Kunay and Kairi would receive theirs.

However, no sooner than they had laid their paws on the stones, the village was suddenly attacked by the last Pokémon anyone would expect to see in the Johto Region: a Hydreigon.

It was in an outrage of fury, destroying everything in his path, even any of the Ninetails and young Vulpix that tried to stop him.

Kairi and Kunay's father was among those who perished on that day. The trauma from the experience has led to Kunay feeling a single emotion at all times: hatred toward Dragon-type Pokémon.

He had tried to convince Lord Kuruma to permit him to hunt down the Hydreigon that murdered so many of their kin and exact revenge, but the old Ninetails seemed adamant to do nothing but rebuild the village. And so Kunay took it upon himself to leave the village and search for him and kill him…and every dragon Pokémon that stood in his way…
