January 1st, 2000. A lovely day to celebrate a year change and to make resolutions that are never kept. However, a battle raged on in an archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. An unusual set of islands out of the way of most tropical systems and positioned in a spot where heat aggregated produced a large set of desert islands. Even more unusual was the constantly changing political map, where nations named after colors constantly battled over plots of land that had various strategical advantages.

Currently, the nations known as Red and Blue (previously stylized as RED and BLU) were engaged in primitive trench warfare. The 9 classes known to both armies had not changed at all, and more troops of each type were stuffed into crowded trenches, constantly getting bombarded by rockets and grenades. The hopeless war had been ongoing for the last 6 months, and no side had gotten an advantage.

In the far back lines 5 miles away, Richard Mundy from the Blue army was scoped in, scanning the enemy lines for a head poking out. Seeing a heavy weapons guy from the Red side of the battle field, Richard adjusted his gun angle and pulled the trigger. A clean shot. Richard's high intelligence and high accuracy allowed for the Blue leader (Known as King Blue) to promote him to Head of Snipers, where Richard made executive decisions relating to the Blue Sniper. The other heads on his team, as Richard recalled, were Nathan Vetter (Scout), John Doe (Soldier), Charles "Char" Charlie (Pyro), Tavish DeGroot (Demoman), Mikhail "Misha" Cheinvok (Heavy), Dell Conagher (Engineer), Joseph Heilberger (Sniper) and Francis Baguette (Spy). Francis was Sniper's rival, and they constantly jeered at each other because of their opposing lifestyles.

Meanwhile, in the Blue trenches, John and Joseph were addressing their troops. "The übercharge is ready. We will rush the enemy in a minute, and blow their heads to kingdom come! This is the moment we have been waiting for the last 6 months, and troops, we wish for you to partake in the glory. For Blue!" The soldiers and medics cheered:-"For Blue!" Then the squad charged forwards and killed several people in the trench before dying themselves. Dell Conagher, looking through a helmet mounted camera, shook his head. They needed a new strategy, or something more powerful.
