A Childhood Memory
Disclaimer:...? Do I really need one? ... Okay, I have never, nor will ever, own 'The Legend of Zelda'. So take your money hungry lawyers somewhere else. Readers: "Awww…."
As she waited for Link, who would certainly come to rescue her, Zelda stared out of the single window, her mind drifting back to that memory. The memory of when she and Link first meet. *Cheesy flashback fade*.
Colors swirled around Zelda, as she sat on a horse, the kingdom in celebration of her 8th birthday. She waived at people, not really paying attention. As she was passing a small farm, she saw a boy who couldn't be more than 8 or 9, surprisingly hard at work for his age. She blinked, holding a charm close to her. The pitchfork looked too big and heavy for someone of his stature, but he kept at it with a determined face.
Suddenly, he stopped work and turned around, a big grin on his face and waived to her. Shyly, Zelda waived back, her face turning a light shade of pink. The horse she was on yanked at his harness, making her jump. The boy gave her a concerned look, but she shook her head. It was a small tug, after all. After a few seconds, she looked down at her hand in alarm.
Her charm was gone. She tried to turn around, but the guard behind her made her keep going. Zelda looked back at the boy, who looked lost in thought. She sighed, feeling tears jerking at the back of her eyes.
That night, Zelda sneaked into the back garden. Her birthday turned into a miserable event. For her, at least. Sitting on a small bench near the fountain, she cried softly to herself.
"Are you okay?" Asked a voice from behind. She turned around, slightly confused at the gentle voice. The boy who had waived at her earlier was standing right next to her, looking very concerned.
She looked at him in surprise. "H-how did you get here?" "I snuck in." He replied a kind and slightly mischievous smile appearing on his face.
"When you dropped this and that guard didn't let you get it, I took it before anyone else noticed it and try to steal it." He said, handing her the wing-shaped charm. She gasped and smiled, holding it close to her heart.
"Thank you." She whispered happily, a tear falling down her face. He blinked. "Are you okay?" He asked, wiping her tear away. She blushed and nodded.
"I'm just happy. My Mom gave me this to me before she died. So it's really important to me." She explained.
"Oh! I'm sorry! I forgot to ask your name!" "My name is Link….I'm sorry about your mom." He said softly.
"Oh, it's okay. I don't really remember her, anyway."
She looked at Link. He had slightly messy blonde hair and deep blue eyes. "Wait! What about your parents? Won't they be worried?" He shook his head. "I don't have parents. I live with my uncle. He won't be home for a while."
Zelda was about to reply when she heard one of the maids call out for her. "Uh oh! You need to go or you'll get in trouble!" Link nodded, and was about leave when he turned around and said; "Goodbye, Zelda. I'll see you later. I promise."
Giving her a bright and cheerful grin, he slipped back into the darkness. "Zelda! There you are! The King is to see you at once!" She nodded, still dazed and slightly blushing.*Cheesy flash-in fade*
Zelda smiled at the memory. She missed Hyrule, her father who may be dead, and dearly missed Link. She sighed. Until he comes, she'll be in another world. A world of her memories.
