"It was no good."

An azure man sighed, leaning his body to a crimson woman beside him.

"Don't give up so easily, you idiot. When will you get the fame if you keep on giving up? Come on, Kaito." She said. The azure man—Kaito, heaved another heavy sigh.

"Easy for you to say." He replied.

"Easy for Meiko—the best selling Vocaloid. The beautiful, fine voiced Meiko. I feel like there's nothing you can't achieve, you're truly amazing."

Kaito laughed seeing the slight blush on Meiko's face.

"No—ah, damn. You're changing the subject. Now let's work that voice of yours."

"Okay. Yes. Yes. Wait, no. it still sounds kinda off. From the beginning."

Kaito started pouting. "Whaat? From the beginning? But I only screwed up a little!"

"Nonsense, Kaito!" She hit his head.

"Ouch! What was THAT for?!" He said while rubbing his head.

"That was for not listening to me. Now, do as I said!" She crossed her arms. Kaito sighed.

"Okay, okay. I will."

Meiko and Kaito—who doesn't recognize the pair of a mature young woman and a childish young man? Kaito has always been like a little brother to her. Kaito, who is slightly shorter than her somehow enjoys being her little brother. Whenever there's Meiko, there's Kaito. Since Meiko's busy with her debute, sometimes he's left alone with his thoughts. Wondering what's lacking in him. Meiko realize the fact that she's way more popular than him, but she's not getting cocky about it. She's always there for him, cheering him up, and helping him to improve his vocal.

One night, after she's done with her job, she returned home and found Kaito sobbing in the corner. She gasped and rushed to him.

"Kaito—oh my god, Kaito, what happened?!"

"This is horrible. Mei-chan, I'm screwed. I'm so done!" He looked very panicked. Meiko hugged him and stroked his back gently.

"Sssh, sssh. Calm down. Tell me everything." She said with a gentle and caring voice.

"I… I accidentally heard that… if my popularity isn't getting any better, they're going to uninstall me. What should I do, Mei-chan?! I don't want to disappear…" Meiko hugged him tighter.

"No, Kaito. I'm not going to let that happen. I'll do anything. I'll figure something out. Now… calm down, okay?" She stroke his head. She doesn't want to lose him. She can't imagine her day without him.

"You're not going anywhere. You're not going to be uninstalled. So quit crying, you crybaby." Meiko shed his tear with her finger and stared to his face for awhile. The distance between them is short, and Meiko can feel his breath at her chin. She blushed before backing off.

"Thanks, Meiko." That's it. His heartwarming smile. Meiko's heart raced faster. Her face must be as red as her clothes now—who knows? It's dark in here.

But deep down her heart, she's thinking of something else.

What will she do if he got uninstalled? She'll be very lonely. Was it her fault? Was it her who stole all attention from him?

She bit his lips, guilt started haunting her feelings. Was it because of her all along?

"…an. Meei-chaan!"

"…Huh?"

Meiko shook her head, brushing off the thought.

'I shouldn't think of such things. There's another important matter.' She thought.

"What?"

Kaito and Meiko are talking to a man in front of them. He's smiling widely.

"Yes, there's going to be a new Vocaloid. Which means, you got an addition to your family! Good news, right?"

Meiko nodded. "I.. it sure is, master."

"She will be released next week. Treat her nicely okay? Don't make bad impressions."

They both nodded. After saying goodbye to their 'master' they entered their house and Meiko closed the door.

"Did you hear that?"

Kaito nodded.

"A new Vocaloid, huh… that's it. I'm done for good."

"Huh? What?" Meiko tilted her head.

"I can't even compete with you, and there's going to be a new one?"

His words silenced Meiko for awhile. She began to feel anxious too. But she swallowed the feeling and buried it deep down.

"Come on, don't be pathethic!" She gave him a rough pat on the shoulder.

"Ouch! Stop hurting me! Fine, fine! I'll be okay! I'm not giving up yet! And I won't!" He cried in pain. Meiko chuckled.

"That's my little brother." She whispered.

A week after that, a teenage girl was standing in front of them. Her smile was wide and adorable. Her twintailed green hair are extremely long. She's just very… flawless.

"My name is Hatsune Miku, it's nice to meet you!" She bowed in such a perfect manner.

"Nice to meet you, Miku. I'm Meiko and this is Kaito." Meiko introduced herself and Kaito. Kaito smiled gently.

"Welp, Miku-chan, they're your big bro and sis, so they'll take a good care of you. Am I right?" The master smiled. Kaito and Meiko both nodded.

"So now Miku-chan, show them what you got."

"R-right here?" She's slightly blushing.

"Of course! Where else?"

"Okay." She took a deep breath before started singing.

Her beautiful voice made both Kaito and Meiko speechless. Fear began to haunt Kaito even more, and Meiko realized it. She knows she have to do something real quick.

"U-um, Miku-chan."

Miku turned around, smiling.

"Ahh, Meiko-san? What is it?"

"Can you please help me?"

"Sure! Anything!" She answered cheerfully. She's always like this, actually.

"Can you… help Kaito? He's dealing with a serious problem. If his popularity keeps on increasing, he'll be…" There was a pause. Meiko bit her lips.

"…uninstalled."

"O-oh my, that's horrible! What can I do to help?" Miku looks concerned.

"Can you help him being in a spotlight? It must be easy for you to do."

What she said was a fact. Not long after her release, Miku became extremely popular. Vocaloid became even more recognized. Her cute face and voice hypnotized anyone. Meiko knew that she'll bring fame to Kaito in no time.

"Why, sure! I will. Kaito-san is such a nice guy, I can't let him being uninstalled." Miku smiled.

"Thank you. I knew I could trust you." Meiko smiled widely.

"You're Kaito-san, right?"

Kaito turned at the twintailed girl. She's smiling at him.

"Yes, Miku-chan? What do you need?" He stood up and smiled.

"Umm, well... i heard your voice when you're practicing and i think it's really beautiful! Would you mind to come with me today? I want you to sing with me!" She said cheerfully.

"Wha..." His eyes widened.

"N-no, my voice isn't that good, i shouldn't-"

"Oh, just go ahead."

"Me-mei-chan!"

Meiko was leaning against the wall, crossing her arms in front her chest.

"B-but, I can't!"

"Yes you can! Come on, all of those practice, what do you think I'm doing that for? You've done well enough. Isn't this a great chance for you to test your singing skills?"

"Yes, She's right! C'mon, just trust me!" Miku grabbed his arm and dragged him away.

"Mei-chaaaan!" He cried.

Seeing Kaito streching out his arm and screaming her name, Meiko laughed.

"Good luck!" She smirked.

Since then, Miku helped Kaito gained her fame. Whenever she's going to do her debute, she asks Kaito to go with her. Slowly, Kaito became popular. Kaito was very happy. He became attached to Miku.

"Kaito-san, try this!" Said Miku one day, handing a popsicle to him.

"Oooh, what is this?" Kaito asked.

"Eh? You don't know? This is called an ice cream! It's delicious!" She said.

"Okay… mmm… hey, this indeed is delicious! Miku-chan, I love this!"

"I know right? I told you!"

Not far from there, Meiko is watching. Of course, she's happy to see that Kaito is happy. But… something is aching deep down in her heart.

He's growing distant. He's been too much with Miku lately, and he didn't chat with Meiko much. He seems really excited with Miku… as excited as when he's with her. And that's not the only problem.

"Meiko—I have bad news. Your popularity increased like a landslide. I'm very sorry about this. On the bright side, Kaito's fame is going whoosh! You should be happy for him."

Her master's word echoed in her head. She didn't know how to feel. To think that Kaito has got the fame he desserves… she's really happy. But her own popularity?

'Maybe it's my punishment for stealing his spotlight once?' She thought.

Kaito noticed her watching. Meiko smiled and waved. She's expecting him to come to her or wave back excitedly, just like what he usually did.

But no.

Kaito just turned his face away and continued talking to Miku.

Meiko feels as if she's just struck by a lightning. She's broken. Really broken. She turned around and entered her bedroom. She shut the door, locked it, and sat at the bedside.

'What was that?'

The scene of Kaito turning his head flashed back in her memory.

'Did he just...'

She felt something wetting her cheeks.

He has changed. She neer thought that Kaito would just turn away like that... they haven't talked for a long time. Everytime she woke up, he's away. He's not home even when it's bedtime. He's really famous and busy now. She understands. She had always been the understanding big sister.

Is this what she desserves? After all those kindness?

He's not the old Kaito she knew. The old Kaito she loved. She's replaced with a new person. A new and better person.

Miku has replaced her from his heart. But nobody could replace him on her heart.

'This is unfair.'

She shed her tears.

'But i can't just stay like this...' She stood up and walked towards the window. She closed her eyes.

The good memory of days she spent with him flashed like a movie without sound. His face, his laughter, his kindness, his innocence, his smile...

She opened her eyes before her tears could started falling again.

Those were such good times. But that time is over.

'If that is what you want, then it is okay. I am glad that you are happy.'

She opened the window, welcoming the spring breeze that blows gently to her face.

"Starting now on, we're on our own." She whispered to herself.

"Meiko has been upgraded. Welcome, Meiko V3"

She slowly opened her eyes. Her eyes gazed around the room. His mater and several other peoples are there.

"You should look at how amazing you are." Her master said with a smile. Meiko turned and saw herself in a mirror. She blinked a few times.

'Is this really me?' She thought.

A smile appeared on her beautiful face.

"Now, go and say hello to your fans!" Her master opened the door. Meiko walked outside.

Outside, people are cheering, admiring her new appereance. Her smile widened.

Her fans may not be as much as Miku and Kaito's fans, but she's satisfied. As long as someone know her name, as long as someone smiles for her, she knew she'll be alright.

She waved her hand in the air.

"Now, who wants to hear my voice?"

Hello, Author here. First of all, i want to thank my friend to give me this brilliant idea. Thanks for the amazing plot! Amazing plot, bad story. Meeh.

So, i read Meiko's wikia a few days ago. And it was said that Meiko was the most succesful V1, and no one barely knows who Kaito is. But as soon as Miku got released, Kaito gained his popularity (because of Miku was paired with Kaito, i suppose) and Meiko was barely selling at all. It's like Miku is stealing Meiko's spotlight, and i'm personally pissed by this fact since Meiko is my favorite Vocaloid.

That's enough ranting. Please forgive my poor grammar & crappy story.
