Hello, readers! This was an idea that came to mind. It's quite short, so I apologize. But please, read and enjoy.
Disclaimer: I don't own Cause of Death. I'm far too stupid to know how to create such a wonderful game. And if I did write the story and scripts for the game, Oscar would have never even been mentioned. Grr.
Organ music filled the air, echoing softly off of the walls of the chapel building. Mal Fallon stared downwards, his face devoid of any emotion. What was he doing? Why was he here?
"We gather here today to join two lives," the preacher spoke. Mal shifted uncomfortably in the pew, trying his best not to stand up and interfere.
He could remember his wedding. He and Sandra had made their marriage last several years, considering that they married young. And in the end, it had all come to an end when she cheated on him. He had only just started to adapt to living alone when Natara Williams stepped into his life.
Although they disagreed on several things and argued during cases, they were partners, and she was one of his closest friends. But he had always wanted more. Although he never told her, he was incredibly jealous of Oscar Santos from the moment Natara started going out with him.
He stared into space as the preacher continued to speak. "We join the lives of Natara Williams and Oscar Santos. May God bless them with a long and golden marriage." Mal closed his eyes, his fingers clenching around the edge of his seat so tightly that his knuckles paled to a ghostly white.
"Do you, Oscar Santos, take Natara Williams to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
Oscar nodded, a grin playing on the corners of his lips. "I do."
"And do you, Natara Williams, take Oscar Santos to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
Suddenly the world slowed to a crawl, and Mal's world went black and white. He wanted her to be happy, but he also wanted her to be his. A piece of him wanted to jump up and stop her, and another hoped that she would change her mind. But the words she spoke brought all of his thoughts to a shattering end.
"I do," she said softly. Mal closed his eyes, unable to watch as Oscar leaned in and kissed Natara on the mouth. This was it. He was too late.
He didn't have the chance to speak to her until the reception when she approached him with a smile. "Hey, Mal."
"Hey." He studied her closely. She was grinning, her face radiant. "You look great."
"You don't look too bad yourself. Are you wearing a bow tie?"
"Don't get used to it." He forced a smile. Natara laughed and squeezed his shoulder before frowning slightly.
"Mal, are you alright? You look a little… off."
He nodded slightly. "Perfect," he lied through his teeth. Natara smiled again and hugged him tightly before she walked away to dance with her husband. Mal eyed his surroundings. Ken Greene walked up to him and grabbed his arm.
"If you're asking me to dance, I'll have to turn that offer down…"
Ken rolled his eyes. "Mal, I know you don't wanna be here."
"Sure I do."
"We all know you have a thing for that fine partner of yours. You look like you'd rather be dying somewhere than here."
"A thing?" Mal scoffed.
"You should have taken her when you had the chance, man. I know you like her."
Mal glanced in Natara's direction, making sure that she wouldn't overhear their conversation. Ken was right. He should have made his move, but he hadn't. She wasn't his. And she never would be. She belonged to someone else now.
"I don't like her."
"Bull. You're always making those googly eyes at her. Every time you see her with that pretty lawyer of hers, you look like an abandoned puppy. You-"
"I love her." And with that, he walked away.
Aww…. I hated to do that, but it just demanded to be written.
Reviews contribute to the Maltara Obsession Foundation, a club founded by myself, which will break up Oscar and Natara and make her see that Mal is the one for her. Or reviews can make me stop telling a bunch of bull crap and shut up.
