The midnight moon reflected in the indigo lake. A strange silence surrounded the grounds of Hogwarts, from the Forbidden Forest to the lonely Quidditch pitch. A flattened path of grass extended from the school to where Harry now stood, shrouded by the Invisibility Cloak. He grasped a brown-paper package tightly under his left arm.

Harry unconsciously started to hum under his breath. He had no idea why, it just seemed right. The air around him was muggy, and he was finding it hard to breathe. Or maybe it was just him; the thought of the white tomb made his throat close up.

The slight glimmer of the lake caught the corner of his eye. He could hear the faint splashings of some unknown water-dwelling creature. Caught up in the moment, he stumbled over a rock that he would have been able to avoid if he had been paying attention. His humming stopped, and he swore under his breath. The package had tumbled out of his grasp, and as he bent down to grab it, the cloak slipped off. He swore again.

Throwing the Invisibility Cloak over his shoulder, Harry walked closer to Dumbledore's grave. The white stone almost shone in the darkness of the night. He carefully balanced the package on the top of it. "One can never have enough socks, eh?" Harry whispered to the wizard, though he knew the former headmaster could not possibly hear him.

The call of a strange bird resounded through the early morning breeze. Professor McGonagall walked down towards the lake; a peaceful route she had made a habit to take every morning. She noticed something strange atop of Dumbledore's tomb. She trotted over to it, and jumped upon it, using her tail for balance. She used a claw to tear into the brown packaging. A piece of paper fell out, with handwriting she knew to be Harry Potter's scrawled over it. 'Merry Christmas Professor, even though it's a bit too early. I didn't think you'd mind. -Harry' Professor McGonagall was puzzled. "I always thought you wanted books for Christmas," she murmured to herself.
